2010 5.7 first oil change
Hi all
Just traded my Mazda Speed 3 in on a 2010 Big Horn RAM
I have always done an oil change at 1000 miles on every new car I owned.
I was told by the dealership not to change it until 3000 because of the factory fill has a addative in it. Is this true?
What brand oil is factory fill?
I do know that I must use 5w20 with the MDS
5 is very thin for south Florida in my mind.
Thanks

1000 miles is very old school.Today's engines the machining is so much better then 10/20 years ago.I would not be surprised if a certain type assembly lube is used.5w20 is the correct weight oil for proper MDS function and best fuel mpg. I ran mine 2500 before its first oil change.I use to do 1000 years back.
my change oil indicator came on at 2500 miles, that seems to be the average for the first one. Maybe the second one will be longer. 5-20 weight oil is great if you think about the fact that the 5 is for cold weather and the 20 for hot conditions. New oils hold up better than the old formulations.
what about the schedule in the book 6 months or 6000 miles mine is 6 months or 10000km I can't even wait on the light. I change it every 3 months or 5000 kms oldschool.

I went old school to change out the first oil and filter sooner than recommended. Wanted to do it at 1K miles, but the opportunity just did not present itself until 2,200.
The truck I'm driving is a lease/program vehicle through/for work and evidently I'll be getting some type of scheduled maintenance coupon book. As I understand it, I bring the truck to the shop at the mileage indicated on the coupon, shop does what ever the maintenance schedule says to do, and directly bills the company. Guess I'll see how that works out...
