Dealer told me the other day, when i was asking about the mopar cai. That any aftermarket filters you put in have to be of the dry type, no oil. To stay within the warranty. Dont know how true that is tho, maybe just one more thing outta their a$$ lol

Default interesting

i though mopar offered an oiled filter. i also though it was proven that they can not void a warranty for an air filter. same for an oil filter.

If you go to K&N's website they say that it does not void your warranty. Also my salesman recommended that I get one as he has one on his Ram as well. I will double check with my salesman and let you know what he says.

Default easy fix

when the truck goes in for service drop the stock filter back in. lots of people on here have full intakes, i cant imagine they are voiding their warranties.

only problem is that it is definitely tricky to get the filter cover on and off without taking the intake hose off.

Default manual

I just read the manual and the warranty booklet. The manual states we are required to use a HIGH QUALITY air filter, and recommends mopar.

Why would an air filter be any different than an oil filter? if you choose to use a brand other than OEM it is all the same. same with the oil, i bet many people use a different viscosity than is recommended, that will void the warranty too.

anyhow my thought is if I went to napa and bought a napa paper filter or a k and n or an aem it is an air filter and we can choose the brand of part we use. if the same tech wanted to say the napa filter caused the problem they could.

in the mercedes world or mods lots of people change the pulley on the old style supercharged engines and many dealers would still do warranty work. if anything that is a change not an air filter.

if via user error you over oil after the first use then yes, that would void a warranty claim on a sensor, and with that I cant argue BUT I have been told our engina has no mass airflow sensor and unless I decide to reuse and oil this thing myself there is no way it can be over oiled.

anyhow I think the point is that the air filter is an airfllter and the warranty can not be void unless the manual states you cant use the oil type or a certain type of filer, which it does not. user error is a different point all together....

They can only void the warranty if they can prove that the filter was the cause of the issue, like if you had a bunch of dirt contaminate the oil which got through b/c of a bad air filter. The dryflow is a better filter than the k&n, but as long as they are both properly maintained you shouldn't have an issue w/ either.

simple answer to this quagmire, buy a paper filter and throw it in anytime you take it in for check engine light and remove after you leave with the fix required. No worries about the stealer trying to f#$@ with you instead of doing what they are supposed to do I guess.
