Had a problem last night
Last night my truck was stuck in drive and wouldnt shift back into park. I had to remove that little emergency cover and push the button in to get it move. Well when I did that it would go back up to reverse but wouldnt go into park. I had to to move it a couple of times to get it in park. I went to walmart last night when this happened and it was snowing. The roads were pretty bad since here in nowhere south carolina, we have no snow trucks. The truck did awesome with no problems except with the shifter. Has anyone else had this happen? I was thinking that it was maybe from the snow getting in somewhere but wasn't sure..Can someone please help me figure this out..I am going to call the dealership on Tuesday and have them look at it for me..Thanks in advance..
Yea I am definetly going to take it to the dealership..with this being a new truck, I seriously doubt that this should have happened even if it could have something to do with snow..this sucks..makes me worried..
my GF's brother has a toyota pickup, and when it snowed hard here there was so much buildup in the linkage that froze on the highway, it wouldnt go into park. i told him to clean it off from under his truck, and he did, and the shifter worked perfectly from there on out. i'm willing to bet you drove on the highway during snow slush, and it just built up there oddly and froze. don't ever force it, b/c you will end up breaking something. just get your butt under the truck, maybe some warm water, melt the ice chunk that is your shift linkage at the trans, and wipe clean. should be good to go again. in the future, like i suggested to my toyota friend, make a plastic guard to cover that area from splash back. works like a charm. best of luck
Thanks rydesolow..I didnt force it in..I just pushed the emergency button in and it went in fine..went into the store and came back out and it was fine..i think that I still am going to take it to the dealership..with this being a new truck I dont think that this should happen..
Kinda tells ya it's not snow if you push the button and it moves, must be and internal problem, like your tranny is fubar. It happens, you should see how they beat them at the plants, you worry about going slow for 500 miles, we used to get the vans and minivans up to 100 mph not supposed to was accidental. That was not on the road it was on the rolls machine where it basically tests trans, rear end, even a/c and heat, etc.

I took my truck to the dealership yesterday and they said that there was something wrong internally with my gearshift..They replaced it and now it even feels tighter. They said that they have seen this problem before..So now everything is fine..
