thinking of gettin rid of the 09 ram
So ive been leaning alot lately to trading my 09 laramie and maybe leaving the whole dodge name. other than style i havent been overly wowed by my truck. i think it has a great interior and body but my old 06 outdoes my new truck in most things. was maybe thinkin of going to a new body style 07+ silverado 2500HD crew 6'6 box DMAX diesel. i dont hear anything good about dodges new diesels. our company 6.7 are junk, and i would love an old 5.9 but one of the main reasons i got outta my 06 was just cause it was so plain and boring with not much luxury and that is only available in the 3rd gen body style.
the hemi has been a great engine for power. my new hemi is better than my old hemi but yet dodge screws around and puts all this safety crap into their program and limits these trucks i feel. and i think my trucks rumble is one of the best trucks for sound. love the hemi rumble. but why dodge cant get chevy MPG's is ridiculous. yeah when you compare gas engines i think ours is better but not by that much and everybody i know with a chevy gets decent truck mpg. not lookin for a civic or anything but why cant dodge get with the times and put a 6 spd in? anything to help.
who the heck puts an open rear end in a truck. the f****?? like one huge disappointment with my truck. yeah maybe i should read the window sticker but like i dont know of a real truck that would have an open rear end so it kinda slips your mind. i work out in the bush and this truck limits me to where i can go cause of the esp and all that crap. i guess we will see what kinda value dealerships will give for a trade in and go from there.

Good luck getting away from ESP. My bro Tundra has it and my buddy's new GMC has it nasty bad. He can not spin a tire. They make these trucks to produce crazy HP and Torque numbers then limit them so you can not break stuff. I think an LSD is an option on all trucks these days.
I just managed 21 MPG on a raod trip so I am happy as hell.
Good luck and I hope you find hapiness.

Trade for a 4x4 Ram 1500 with 3.92 LSD and you get to tell ESP to **** off below 40mph! You also have partial off ESP mode above 40mph! There is a new 2010 4x4 Big Horn in my driveway in large part due to Toyota's ESP getting on my last nerve.
Hey, I have similar issues as RuffRam with mine too. If Dodge was smart they would open a Custom // Add-on // Modification boutique at every dealership with parts and services AT REASONABLE PRICES for those of us that aren't 100% happy with the way the designers and engineers produced their vehicles.
Aftermarket stuff is okay for some things but....
Rant off

also remember that when you compare our hemi to a chevy you need to be comparing apples to apples. I could care less what the chevy 5.3 gets since it is not making the power that we do...you need to talk to the guys with the 6.0 or the new 6.2, and from what I hear from my friends they are getting the same as we do. It has been said before, if you are worried about mpg's then buy a car. Try towing a 5,000 pound trailer around and getting 10 to 12 mpg and then come and complain.

Yeah, they do that. Now, get a little bit crazy and try drifting it around a corner... on snow, sand etc. Once the backend gets out a ways, the ESP magically turns itself back on for a bit and try's to straighten you out then goes back to spinning. It scared the hell out of me the first time and I damn near hit the ditch because of it. PITA but I guess I should just not get quite so crazy?
outside of knowing you have it please tell me where it made a difference in your truck's performance thus far?
the esp works and yeah you cant spin the tires but do you need to? everyone complains about the open but the stock 3.55 works.
I got all caught up thinking in need the lsd and 3.92 because when I bought my truck I really didn't know alot about the difference. i even got a quote of almost 3k to do the change. what also kills me is a lot of the people on here talking about the open diff bought a 2wd truck, if you were worried about traction why would you do that?
for most people who buy a 1/2 ton they drive on the road, maybe a little off and tow a trailer. I have yet to see where the lsd would make a difference in what I use the truck for.
I even called a few shops and they told me what is on there is all i need unless I want to get more aggressive off road and to be honest would i buy a decked our laramie to be aggressive off road?
I guess I am kind of tired from everyone saying you NEED the 3.92 option, yes it would be good to have it but it does not make or brake the truck.
my underlying point is that I dont think most people who really complain about the open diff really need the lsd, it is more perception than reality.

I have to agree with you on the rear end. I wanted the LSD 3.92 but the truck I found has the open 3.55. I have no complaints so far, we will see how it performs in the mud and snow if I ever get any more. The one day of snow we had, it seemed to do just fine.
And this is coming from a guy who's last truck had a full on Detroit Locker out back. You want real performance, get a locker put in.
As for the ESP, I can live with it, I guess it is now time to grow up. LOL
