detroit truetrac gear oil type
I am going to put a detroit truetrac in my 09 ram 1/2 ton 2wd. Eaton mfg. the maker of the truetrac says not to use synthetic fluids due to some cases of diff. whine,or so the tech guy says.I call amsoil tech and they say there is no reason not to use their synthetic.Amsoil does not even make a non synthetic diff. fluid. What are you guys with truetrac's using ,and if synthetic does it whine with stock gears? Thanks.
If the manufacturer says not to use synthetic, why are you even considering it? Forget the Amsoil, save yourself a bazzillion dollars and use some regular old valvoline or castrol dinosaur based gear oil.
Did you talk to them on the phone or what? The actual manual for the DTT says to use whatever fluid the manufacturer recommends for the axle, so in your case it would be syn. 75w-140. I have a DTT and use syn. gear oil and my diff. has some whine but it's gear noise not the DTT. Also there are plenty of people running them w/ syn. lube so I wouldn't sweat it.
Do you have aftermarket gears? I hear they may whine a little. Mine are stock 3.92.And yes I talked to a tech at eaton on the phone. He said no synthetics.I think I'll run amsoil and call it a day. Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have yukon 4.10's and I'm running amsoil in the rear.
