Extended warranties.....
I want to get an extended warranty for my new truck. What is the best time to buy, when new or later and what company really stands behind their warranty.
Thanks

I've had one $900 claim on my '05 Dakota policy with this outfit. They paid for the repair, towing, lodging, rental car minus the deductible with no hassle.

I bought the Chrysler max care on my Jeep here, way cheaper then the dealer and no tax:

They told me it would be cheaper if I bought it at the same time as my truck, plus it would be included in the final price & thus the financing. I didn't buy it at the time but I might at some point if I have a few grand hanging around...
It starts going up after 1yr/12K miles from what I can see. Also have to watch the deductibles, I bought a 7/70 max care with zero deductible for 200.00 less than a 6/60 with a 100.00 deductible the dealer offered. Plus i would have had to pay sales tax on it which was another 100.00.
But to be fair the same dealer did offer me a very good price on the warranty for this truck, same price as the online guys but I would still have to pay tax - thats fair enough. But I'll wait until I have this for a while and see if I'm going to keep it for more then the 3/36 before I buy an extended.
To amplify my previous post. Warranty Direct prices were $800 higher than the Dealer offered 7/70 - $100 deductible (APCO-Total Care) when I bought the 2WD 09 Ram in December of 09. Total cost was $1560 and I did not pay tax on that amount in TX.
I wanted a $200 deductible but none of the warranties I researched offer it.
After researching the APCO contract it appeared to be as reliable as Warranty Direct so I went with it.

If your going to purchase one through your dealer get on it sooner rather than later. My wife was quoted $400 for an extra year when she bought her Jeep. She decided to get the extra coverage after she had it for about a year and 15000km and the price was now $1000.
