Oldjeep the Goodyear MTR is probably overkill for my driving but you got me thinking Goodyear and I'm liking the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac. Some reports of sidewall flex but mostly on HD trucks. Goodyear says this is a LT tire, not sure why people are putting them on 3500's then bitching about the tire.

Rated as a commercial tire, so the ride might be a little harsh on a 1/2 ton - specs look decent enough.

I have run the BFGs on my old truck and really liked them. The only problem I had was they would wear uneven unless i rotated them every 4000 miles or so. I also ran the the bridgestone dueler revo and loved them better than the BFG KO. They are a little spendy and don't have quit the aggressive look as the other tires, but they were great in snow, mud, rain, ice and dry pavement. I almost put them on my ram, but decied to try the cooper zeon ltz. So far I think the coopers are a great tire. Not alot of road noise, and aggressive look. I don't have alot of miles on them yet (400) but so far I like them.

Dude, I have BFG AT's on my current truck and had to work every day during the two huge snow storms we just had in VA (30 inches of snow). I was picking up my staff and even some of my clients and the tires did fine. The plows did a really ****ty job down here and alot of the places were not plowed at all. I also was the designated driver for all of the ski-biking and truck sledding (pulling people behind my truck via a rope for fun), not to mention pulled multiple people out of ditches.

I don't think there is ANY tire out there that handles well on ice so forget about that factor, and my advice for any snow is to stick to a radial, it will cut through much better than any rounder tire would (they just pick the snow up like snowball). I'm putting BFG AT 37X12.5R20 on my new truck.

They do list them in a 275/70r18. They are an agresive looking tire and are not for everyone, but I have loved the performance of them in every situation I have encountered.

Here are the tires I plan on putting on my truck when the stock ones wear out.

These tire's have a 70K mileage warranty and They look great. I have talked to a couple of people who ran them and they said they loved them.

If you are to waste your money on Goodyear then go for the Silent Armour tires with Kevlar. Cost a lot but look like a dam good tire no matter whereyou are going.

Hmmm I came across this tonight regarding the Goodyear Duratrac, not the first complaint of weak sidewalls.

Not to be a party-pooper, but I have had the Duratracs on my fully stock 5.7L 4X4 tundra for about a week and have put about 300 miles on them. I have found that they have waaaay too much lateral sway for me. While driving down the highway at speeds of 40-70mph, if you give a short, but sharp, pull on the steering wheel, there is a very noticable slow-motion sway to the vehicle with the front and rear ends taking a very long time to re-align. I firmly believe that in a situation where one is attempting to aviod a collision, you will find yourself in a pickle. It takes enitrely too long for the vehicle to recover from one quick movement to initiate a second movement. I have worked many years as a street medic and flight nurse so safety and injury avoidance are constantly at the forefront of my mind. I believe that with 2-3 rapid sharp turns that would be common in "slaloming" between vehicles during collision avoidance, you would find yourself in a roll, side-over-side.

Earlier today, I contacted the Goodyear store where I purchased the tires and inquired about how to rectify the situation. The man who mounted the tires mentioned he noticed how flimsy the sidewalls were and was concerned himself how these tires would perform. I must say that this store on 7th street in Joplin, MO had excellent customer service during the sell and just as excellent service now. They gave me a contact number for Goodyear and said that if Goodyear did not get me into a new set of shoes (which he said he fully expects them to do) that his store would take care of me. This was the first set of Duratracs they had sold and had not had any other experiences to go off of but were completely willing to replace with whatever I wanted at no cost. Gotta say, this store is awesome!

This tire is absolutely awesome looking and there is no doubt that it would do excellent in mud and snow, but I simply won't have a tire that compromises my safety.
Then he followed up with this later

Ok, after trading out the DuraTrac's for the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's the verdict is in..... Hands down Silent Armor's!!! It's like driving a totally different truck! I now have to admit that MountainMedic was 100% correct! The trucks stability is stable and sure-footed with the SA; and towing OMG these tires are incredible! No sway, no rocky-horse, no white knuckles; for the first time it was a pleasure to tow!

Yeah I have heard great things about the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires. Plus with the 70K warranty they will last, are at least get replaced.

Just when I was liking the tire I'm reading a 4-6mpg drop in gas mileage, no doubt the Pro rated tire which is heavier. wtf I hate shopping tires I'm going to go shop nerf bars that's more fun!
