Default BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO - What's a better tire?

Any recommendations on a tire that compares/beats the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO? I did some research, seems people either love them or hate them.

I'm also thinking about switching to 18 inch rims. The 275/70R18 is almost identical in height/width to the stock 275/60R20 tires I have now. I like taller sidewalls and less wheel.

It's hard to beat the BFG T/A KO. They are 6ply rated, 3ply side wall and have a rim guard. They are quite on the hwy and good in most muddy conditions. They work well in rain, snow, but can cause a little butt sucking on ice if not careful (that could just be me though because in TX we don't get much practice driving on ice). I loved my BFG's. I've had them on just about every truck. With that said, I also think Firestone has a couple of really good truck tires. I forget the name but my 99 QC's first tire swap was to some Firestone tires rated at 10ply on my 16" wheel. They were very good tires comparable to the BFG's but it turns out Firestones road hazard warranty really sucked! They would not replace my tire on the road hazard after I drove a 2" tree stub through the sidewall at the ranch. I had only had the tires about 9mths and they were trying to charge me 80% of the new tire to replace. Luckily I had purchased 5 tires (same tire for the spare) so I had them put take the tire off the spare and put it on the good wheel, then I went to one of the used tire shops and found another FS that matched and when they finally wore out, I changed all 5 to the BFG's from Discount with free replacement.

In short, the BFG T/A KO is probably the best all around tire imo. Jeff.

Never been a real fan of the BFG AT's for any sort of winter driving. Ice performance is just awful, deep snow performance is pretty poor too.

If you're going to drive them on the street mostly and don't get a ton of winter weather then they will be a decent tire for you.

If you do drive in a lot of snow, or dirve offroad at all - In that size I'd go with a Goodyear MTR, great all around tire.

I have the new MT-R's and they are a good tire; however, they are very loud on the highway compared to my last set of KO's.

If you like the BF Goodrich All Terrain but do not like the price Cooper makes a Cooper ST and it is almost identical to the BF Goodrich at half the cost. I ran these tires on a couple of trucks and they where great. I lived in VA so we didn't get much snow but out in the woods and around town they where great. Also chesk out there ST-C This is supposed to be the upgraded ST. I have also ran the BF Goodrich again in VA and they where great but they where also pricey. http://www.coopertire.com/html/produ...=discoverer_st

No doubt, they are noisier than an AT type tire - any MT type tire will be.

A lot of the local guys who need a cheap on-offroad tire run the STT's and really seem to like them.

My personal favorite is the Mickey Thompson MTZ. It is a mud tire but is the quietest on road mud I have ever run. Great on road behaviour, terrific offroad. I ran a set on my old truck for 4 years and still have plenty of tread left. And that is hauling loads often that exceeded the one tons hauling capacity. Snow was no problem, deep or slushy. Ice traction was as good as can be expected out of any tire that is not studded.

I put BFG's on this truck because I got a deal I could NOT pass up but am awaiting the day I have the cash to put on some MTZ's.

I will see black ice and deep snow. There are too many BF Goodrich sucks on ice and snow reports so I have crossed them off my list.

Oldjeep the Goodyear MTR is probably overkill for my driving but you got me thinking Goodyear and I'm liking the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac. Some reports of sidewall flex but mostly on HD trucks. Goodyear says this is a LT tire, not sure why people are putting them on 3500's then bitching about the tire.

I run MTZ's on my Jeep Wrangler, good all around tire - but I didn't think they made them in the size he was looking for.
