I had a similar problem with a Porsche 944 Turbo. After 6 months of trying to figure it out I finally found the problem, it was the computer. After opening it up there was a hairline crack on the board and temperatures out side would affect the expansion of the board. So it was intermittent.

Had the same thing happen to my 09 with only 700 miles, only my lighting bolt was flashing so it went into limp mode, not very good. Did the key thing and was able to clear it to get home. Happened another time and did the same. Finally had time to take it to the dealer and they said couldn't find anything wrong til he went to drive it out of the shop and it happened. Lucky me. Anyway, they ordered a new computer and flashed it and haven't had a problem since. For some reason, they couldn't flash the original computer so they got a new one. Might have been inexperience with the new system.
