The Reese Brakeman Compact is a timed controller, not proportional. If you are only doing very light duty towing, then it would probably be OK.

True enough, my mistake for not stating that.

So, I finaly got my controller working today. I got it to the point where i can start the truck, all lights fire up on it, then go out. Showing no codes on the controler anymore and it actually starts when I turn the key! I have yet to hook it up to the trailer since it is over at my parents house for the winter. I will head over there tomorow nite and hook it up but can't foresee any more problems.

I do have to say I could NOT have done this without help! Without the wiring diagrams and help that Topgun gave me, I would have sold this thing as soon as I found out I was missing the second plug. Thanks man, much apreciated. Turns out my problems were those stupid little quick connectors. I hard wired it in, and it fired right up!

So you can probably hardwire a factory controller in to an 09 truck no?

From what I understand... no. Unless you found a dealer willing to help, maybe. As is, it ties in to the Canbus system and the 09's do NOT accept them. Now, I don't know if a willing dealer would be able to flash it to work or not. When I talked to Dodge canada, they had no interest in helping me and my dealer had no idea as I was the first to buy the OEM controler. Untill I asked about it, they didn't even know it existed. But, I did get a call today and my dealer was going to give me a number of a tech line that said I should call and they would see what they could do to help me. Sadly, he called just as I walked in the door to tell the wife unit I got it working. LOL Could have used him a couple days ago, although, as said, Topgun did a topnotch job in helping me out.

I hooked it up to the trailer on my lunch brake and as it sits, when I hit the brakes, the trailer brakes go on. Wooo hooo.... Untill I get the trailer off the jacks and buy a drop hitch of the right height I won't know how great of a controller it is, but the install is sure slick. Worth the trouble, I just wish it would work for the 09 guys as well.

And maybe, once it gets done a little more there may be some more info out there about the 2 mystery modules to make it hook in to the EVIC. I allready have my junkyard looking for a 2010 to get me the plug I am missing so I can do this right, not just with female connectors....

My second factory controller is now defective. Same problem as my first. The plus button will not work. Anyone else have this issue? I'm two for two so far. The button feels very lose.

Screw the factory then, I bet someone will build one that fits that hole or the new bezel. Even for 2010's, I just like the factory install look, like I could not deal with that Kenwood install or the Pioneer I have seen the factory radio looks much nicer...I have no issue with the way it sounds, I swear when you put a movie in , its like being at the show but looking at a smaller screen LOL.

I haven't bought one yet, I have decided since I have the plug adapter at worst I can just solder and heatshrink the joint and just like a solid wire. They are marked which is which and there are so many controllers out there I figure I can just cut a hole in the back or the bottom of the pocket for the wire to fit thru and just take the controller out when not in use. I will go to a trailer sales or hitch place and check out the differences and learn about them. No real hurry our trailer trip for now is on the back burner. I still would like to be prepared. I am guessing an aftermarket one just resting in the pocket would look as good as the factory install as long as its not all cut up around it.
