Default New Buyer here with questions

Hey all. I'm new to this forum from Kansas City area and also looking to purchase a new truck. I will be a first time owner of a pickup truck. I'm still looking at different makes of full size pickups as well. To be up front, I'm not a Dodge/Chrysler/Ford/Chevy guy. I don't care about these battle lines. I'm looking for a good truck for me and my family that will last for the next 8-10 years (I've kept my last two cars this long). Tied at the top of my list is the new Ram 1500. Just a few questions for you Ram 1500 owners...

Here's what I'm looking at:

- Sport model
- Heated/Cooled leather seats
- Nav, Rear Camera, etc...
- And whatever packages that generally come with truck outfitted with the items above. Don't want to take up your precious time and list them when everyone here know what these are.

This truck generally stickers at about $45,000.00

1. What is a good price with all the incentives available for this truck? What could I expect to pay?
2. If I were to build, are the delivery times accurate (6 - 8 weeks)?
3. Also, on my test drive Sales guy couldn't give me a clear answer. There were drive modes of 2WD, 4x4 Auto, 4x4 Lock, 4x4 Low. Does the 4x4 Auto act like an AWD system?

4. Individuals with console mounted shifter...while driving, once you select a gear using manual gear mode (-/+), how do you get transmission back into Automatic without shifting to neutral then back to drive? I find this a little awkward if not disturbing that you may be pulling a load up hill and have to throw into neutral to get back into automatic transmission mode.

5. Have there been any recalls on 2010 Ram 1500?
6. Have any of you been back to the service department unexpectedly while in warranty? If so for what reason?

7. If there was one thing about your Ram 1500 that you'd change, what would it be?

8. What annoys you about your new Ram 1500?
9. What joys you about your new Ram 1500?
10. I have an iPhone. Could you add tips/info about the iPhone and UConnect that I should be aware of? By the way, pretty cool system.

I do appreciate all of your input. I'm looking to purchase sometime this month as to take advantage of the current incentives.

Thanks,

T.

3. The auto 4wd is like an AWD system. I wouldn't use it on dry pavement for long periods of time. I have driven a Chevy truck with it and it worked nicely... never driven a Dodge that had it though.

7. I would have opted for a Crew Cab instead of the Quad Cab, however, the price was right on the Quad - and I dont have to sit in the back... so maybe other people wish I would have opted for the Crew. I'll probably change the gears eventually... If you plan on getting bigger tires, go with 3.92's (which is standard on the sport anyhow, I think?)

8. Honestly it is a lot better than the competition (I've driven all the other ones quite a bit)... no complaints on the Ram. I'm sure others with chime in with some small issues.

9. The right skinny pedal

The Auto 4wd as it was in my durango never let you get fully into 2wd, it was like a 30 percent front and 70 rear. I hated that fact, so don't get the auto, it is easy to flip the switch to 4HI or 4LO whichever you need.
Get CC the space and the hiding places and or cooler in the floor is nice. I have tall kids and they never complain, rarely back there but when they are it is usually for long distance family visits and they don't complain.
Skip leather seats lotsa complaints but I have an uncle with them for a year now 40000KM and they still look new. He has the heated and cooled.

7 - more power!
9 - the power and the ride quality.
10 - the i-phone connects seemlessly with the u connect. I use it all the time!

The heated seats work well. I live in a climate that can hit -35 to -40C and the seats keep me nice and warm. I haven't had the chance to use the cooled seat feature yet. I love the heated steering wheel!

Just a few questions for you Ram 1500 owners...

Here's what I'm looking at:

- Sport model -nice choice, i have the sport and love it!

- i ordered mine in 09 for an 2010 model, so i did not get as many incentives. I believe my out the door price was right around $36k before any of my accessories.

2. If I were to build, are the delivery times accurate (6 - 8 weeks)?

lets hope... i ordered mine in august and it didn't come in till Dec 23rd. I think it was b/c they were having supplier issues on the leather for the 2010's, but should have it worked out by now.

3. Also, on my test drive Sales guy couldn't give me a clear answer. There were drive modes of 2WD, 4x4 Auto, 4x4 Lock, 4x4 Low. Does the 4x4 Auto act like an AWD system?

- not sure, i know when I switch it to 4x4, it gets me where i need to be.

- it's real easy, just keep upshifting and it will go back to being a normal auto tranny.

5. Have there been any recalls on 2010 Ram 1500?

- not that i know of and i just had my truck in for normal maintenance yesterday.

6. Have any of you been back to the service department unexpectedly while in warranty? If so for what reason?

- nothing yet.

7. If there was one thing about your Ram 1500 that you'd change, what would it be?

- i would want the crew cab (i have the quad), but with the 6'3" bed... in a perfect world that is.

8. What annoys you about your new Ram 1500?

- nothing really...

9. What joys you about your new Ram 1500?

power, sound, handling, and looks.

10. I have an iPhone. Could you add tips/info about the iPhone and UConnect that I should be aware of? By the way, pretty cool system.

i have a crackberry, but haven't really had any issues.

I do appreciate all of your input. I'm looking to purchase sometime this month as to take advantage of the current incentives.

Thanks,

Here's what I'm looking at:

- Sport model
This is what I have and I love mine.
- Heated/Cooled leather seats
I would not recommend these. There has been a huge problem with them stretching and ripping. My truck has 440 miles on it and they are already stretched.
- Nav, Rear Camera, etc... You will not regret getting these options. I could not live without them now that I have them..
- And whatever packages that generally come with truck outfitted with the items above. Don't want to take up your precious time and list them when everyone here know what these are.
May I recommend that you definitely get the “Sport Premium Group”. I think it is the best bang for your buck option.

This truck generally stickers at about $45,000.00
Mine Stickered for $45,110.

1. What is a good price with all the incentives available for this truck? What could I expect to pay?
I paid $35,800 out the door.
2. If I were to build, are the delivery times accurate (6 - 8 weeks)?
I ordered mine Jan 15, 2010 and took delivery Feb 24, 2010.
3. Also, on my test drive Sales guy couldn't give me a clear answer. There were drive modes of 2WD, 4x4 Auto, 4x4 Lock, 4x4 Low. Does the 4x4 Auto act like an AWD system?
PLEASE BE AWARE – 4WD Auto DOES NOT come on sports made in the U.S., this comes on laramie’s and Canadian sports ONLY.

You just move the shifter towards the + side until it is back in auto mode, no moving to neutral is necessary.

5. Have there been any recalls on 2010 Ram 1500?
Not to my knowledge, although I feel the heated/ ventilated seats should be one of them.
6. Have any of you been back to the service department unexpectedly while in warranty? If so for what reason?
N/A

7. If there was one thing about your Ram 1500 that you'd change, what would it be?
The heated/ ventilated seat covers.

8. What annoys you about your new Ram 1500?
The heated/ ventilated seat covers.
9. What joys you about your new Ram 1500?
Power, ride, Uconnect, crew cab…. Well, just about everything.
10. I have an iPhone. Could you add tips/info about the iPhone and UConnect that I should be aware of? By the way, pretty cool system.
I don’t have an iphone so I don’t know, but you can voice dial, and put destinations into your nav. With voice, and lots of cool other features. Probably my favorite feature about the truck.

I forgot to say the moonroof is another one of my favorite options. A lot of people disagree, but personally, now that the sun is shining up here, I hate driving anything that doesn't allow me to open up the roof and let some fresh air in. I also think that it make the inside feel more spacious and bright... even though I have my windows all tinted out!
