Default Oil change light came on at 1000 miles?

I changed my oil at 4000 miles, thats when the light came on the first time. Today the oil change came on the EVIC at 5020 miles, that may be a little short lol. I reset the EVIC at 4000 miles by doing the three gas pedal press thing, not sure is there any other way to do it.

Wondering if anyone else had the light come on that early?

Mine have been

5600
5100
3200

With the 3200 being cold weather. I change at 5K no matter what the computer tells me. The computer can not give me an accurate MPG let alone an accurate time to change my oil.

The gas pedal thing? With the ingition on (truck not running) depress the gas pedal to the floor 3 times within 10 seconds. Resets the oil change light. This is in your owners manual.

Mine has only come on once - around 2500 miles. Had the oil changed every 3-4K since and havn't seen the light. (Current milage is just over 19K with about 4K on this oil change.)

It would not have stayed off for 1000+ miles if it wasn't reset I wouldnt think. It showed the 'change oil' at startup every time until I changed the oil and reset it.

I have 8000 km on my truck and have had 4 oil changes. I get them every 3 months no matter what I am considering waiting on the light or the 6 months but I just can't imagine why all of a sudden the last few years oil can last 6 months or 10000km's. What did they do to it or is it something that was part of the deal made with the US and CAN governments so we use less oil and well lets see what happens to the engines since they are lasting so long now? The oil is an thin as water, my daughters 89 jeep was down 2 quarts, so I had a 4 litre jug of oil in the garage and it was real cold out, I said you should bring the oil in the house so we can poor it easier, let it warm up. Well I checked the jug it was like water, usually oil thickens up some in the cold. I guess it will be good for start up buts not sure about idling or high speed highway, or hot days. I know the hemi needs it for the mds which I wish was non existent. Anyway the light has not come on yet and we have not reset it yet. I would know I am in the drivers seat for every oil change unless there is a way under the hood it has not been reset. Although I get letters from the original dealer which I decided was too far, actually was not impressed with service part....liked sales and the people but when they tried to charge me almost 200 at first until we negiotiated just to let my wife come home after 7 hours the service portion lost my interest. They sent me a letter with a SPECIAL on oil change for HEMI 41.95 plus tax 15% and yet the regular price at a dealer here where I live is 29.95 plus 3 bucks for the extra oil, but i think it went up a dollar or 2. Almost 50 bucks and I have to drive 50 miles...no thanks.

My neighbor changes his oil every 3K miles and I take his old oil and run it another 3K miles in my truck. 173,426 miles on mine and never a bolt turned.

I am thinking about buying a new filter purty soon tho.
