Oil change light came on at 1000 miles?
I have 8000 km on my truck and have had 4 oil changes. I get them every 3 months no matter what I am considering waiting on the light or the 6 months but I just can't imagine why all of a sudden the last few years oil can last 6 months or 10000km's. What did they do to it or is it something that was part of the deal made with the US and CAN governments so we use less oil and well lets see what happens to the engines since they are lasting so long now? The oil is an thin as water, my daughters 89 jeep was down 2 quarts, so I had a 4 litre jug of oil in the garage and it was real cold out, I said you should bring the oil in the house so we can poor it easier, let it warm up. Well I checked the jug it was like water, usually oil thickens up some in the cold. I guess it will be good for start up buts not sure about idling or high speed highway, or hot days. I know the hemi needs it for the mds which I wish was non existent. Anyway the light has not come on yet and we have not reset it yet. I would know I am in the drivers seat for every oil change unless there is a way under the hood it has not been reset. Although I get letters from the original dealer which I decided was too far, actually was not impressed with service part....liked sales and the people but when they tried to charge me almost 200 at first until we negiotiated just to let my wife come home after 7 hours the service portion lost my interest. They sent me a letter with a SPECIAL on oil change for HEMI 41.95 plus tax 15% and yet the regular price at a dealer here where I live is 29.95 plus 3 bucks for the extra oil, but i think it went up a dollar or 2. Almost 50 bucks and I have to drive 50 miles...no thanks.
Plus the oil is getting better.
I change my own oil, seen way too many dealers use bulk and they done even know what weight it is half the time. I'd rather change it myself every 6000 then let the dealer oil change kids mess with it every 3000.
But this thread is about the electronics screwing up, not the age old oil change debate
Changing the oil will NOT turn the light off. You have to use the pedal steps.
3mo 3K was Dino oil days. That is what I did when I was 16. With Syns you can go longer. This is why owners manuals have longer intervals as well as oil manufacturers listing their oil as being "longer life".
I have just over 15K on my truck in about 10 months, so I guess I am going 3.333333 months between changes.

Mine EVIC came on after only 2500 miles first time around, went ahead and had the oil change anyway. Typically I run a 5k change schedule if I am not towing the camper or doing a bunch of short hops.
Waiting for it to pop on again here as we have crossed the 5k line. This time it justs gets reset until I show 7500 on the odometer.
Jiffy Lube loves everyone that still changes at 3k or 3 months!

Hell yes. As long as the oil still pumps through it, then its still filtering, right?
Sarcasm: OFF
No, I change oil & filter at 6000miles or there about. If the factory is willing to warrant the motor for the life of the vehicle with that change interval then I'm convinced that I could go even longer between changes.
I was just making a sarcastic jab at those that get all religious about changing oil at every stop light.

OK wow you had me not going to lie. I was going to say, if you need a mechanic let me know. Cause I know where I could make some money if you were serious.
sometimes sarcasm is lost in print unfortunately and I have not read enough of your posts to where you stick out in my mind and I know you are kidding.
