Default anyone got any help on removing mirrors?

well thanks to the wife for "customizing" my passenger side mirror, i need to get it repainted....

so the best way for me is to take the mirror off and take it in.

im assuming you need to take off the inner door panel to get to the bolts/electrical connection?

Yup - FSM says you have to remove the door panel so you can disconenct the wiring. Then there are 3 nuts holding the mirror on.

As noted, the door panel does need to be removed to get to the electrical connections. Takes more time to get the door panel removed than to actually remove the mirror and it's really a pretty easy job itself. Just pull the top triangle (flag) off (snap connections only) and all of the press-in connectors around the outer edge of the door panel, remove the 1 screw behind the door handle/latch, remove the trim piece that surrounds the handle/latch (pry from the outer-most or front of the vehicle and pull out to release), then just lift the door up and off to get to the electrical connections. Reverse for install (watch the door lock). Have fun.

I would take the mirror apart (had mine apart yesterday). This way the only piece you hand them is the painted piece.

The hard part.... Using a thin flat head screw driver you can "pop" the mirror glass off. Looking inside (from outer edge of mirror) you will see three "clips" just behind the mirror, small one in the middle, two longer ones on the bottom and top of the shorter middle one. Use the screw driver and apply a LIGHT prying pressure so you can work/pull the mirror off (pull from top of glass downwards). Once the clips are free the mirror has two "guides" at the bottom, 90 degrees from the clips. You tilt the top of the mirror forward/down to allow the guides to come off the mirror housing. Do not forget to remove your heating wires (two bloack wires attached to back of glass)

Now... It is easy.

You have 3 Torq to remove. Once those are out you can work loose the painted part of your mirror from the rest. Caution, there is a clip that helps to hold the painted part in place in addition to the Torq. It is bottom right corner of painted part if looking at painted part for passgener, left corner of driver. You can also remove the light from the painted part, oh yea, do not forget to remove the wire from the light, I found this much easier after it was off the painted part due to how the clip to the wire is positioned.

Now you are just handing the painted part of your mirror to the body shop guy. Your mirror will look like crap on the truck for a few days.... I would not put the glass back on though in fear it might catch to much wind and go bye bye. I will caustion you when putting the mirror glass back on, I hosed my clips $35 mistake.

I know I was panicing a little when I messed up the clips on the backside of my mirror glass. Found some used stuff reasonable, but when I asked the dealer and they told me $35 for the mirror glass I as all over it.

Thinking it over I thought 35 was very resonable, considering it is a heated piece of glass/mirror.

ok, so i took some pics for a little write up later on....

found out the mirror "pulls" off. the top portion you just grab with your hands, and "pull" out. then the bottom you just turn a little and the clips release. actually no screw driver is needed.....

I tried to just pull mine, did not seem to want to come off until I applied some pressure to those clips. Just be careful going back on, uinlike me.

You should pickup a few tenths now, less wind resistance!
