4:10's will always have some inherent noise. That ain't nothing IMHO. Mine whine to some degree as expected. Your turning a torque factory at the rear.......scientifically it is the "resonant frequency". Simple lab stuff.

Well, I expected some whine with the aftermarkets, but just not this much whine. It's actually getting worse, with the whine range now from 45MPH to about 80MPH. Acceleration isn't bad, but cruising speeds on the highway is where it's the worst. Seems that when you're just giving it a little gas to maintain the speed you're at, it's where it'll get screaming loud. With the Flowmaster 40 and the OEM Alpine radio turned up to about 20, you can still hear it back there screaming.

There is a little bit of good news though. I've complained enough that 4 Wheel Parts have agree to remove the G2 gears. They were wanting to put in a set of Precision Racing Gears, but I told them no. In my limited experience the racing parts generally care even less on noise level since they're looking for strength more than quiet operation. So, I ordered a set of OEM 4.10 from MoparDiscountParts.com and I'm going to have those installed. I'm taking the truck in on Thursday, so hopefully this will be over with after that.

Let us know if they get the OEM's set up nice and quiet. My 4.10's make the most noise under light throttle like you mentioned and are loudest from 55-62 mph. I can hear them unless I'm driving w/ my window down then after I go over 65 they don't make any noise. If yours are getting louder then that's a sign that something is wrong, how many miles are on them now?

Getting worse is not a good sign. Lash too tight. Preload etc. Good luck.

What made you go with the Auburn? Do you like it so far?

For you guys installing after market gears and or carriers, they are NOT supposed to whine. If you think I'm wrong, then ask the RT guys if their 4.10's whine and I bet they don't! When you have them built a professional "rear end" shop they should tell you this...if not, go somewhere else or don't don't do it! I'll also bet that if you buy a complete build from say like Eaton or such you wouldn't have these problems. My advice is to go find a professional auto race or machine shop and let them build it for you! They're putting the most HP to the wheels and know their business better than most! EDIT: I said Eaton but I meant Moser, sry!

I'm on my second set of 4.10s in the R/T. The seal went bad and ran the pumpkin dry and destroyed the first set....and that's the only time they made any noise lol. They were quiet before that, and the new has been quiet since.

The aftermarket G2s have about 2,000 miles on them, which is why I'm a little worried that the whine is getting worse. I'm really afraid that even if I did learn to live with the sound, that in 10 or 15K the whole thing will explode on me and probably at the worst time possible knowing my luck.

As for the Auburn, I've got no complaints on it at all. I don't think it's causing any of the whine, but at this point I'm not ruling out anything. As far as the LSD goes though, the Auburn seems to be working like a champ. A couple of weeks ago I played around with the ESP off and it did exactly what it was suppose to. I went with Auburn over the OEM and other aftermarket units based solely on recommendation. One of my bosses is a real MOPAR nut and has rebuilt and bought just about any Dodge you can think of. So much so that he's got an order in for a Furious Fuchsia (Panther Pink) Challenger right now to match his 1970 Pink Challenger. Anyway, he's used Auburn in a number of his autos and he's always been happy.

I'm planning on taking the truck by a real gear shop today, Nogalitos Gear, who do nothing but transmissions and axle gears. If they don't want an arm and a leg to fix things, I might skip 4 Wheel Parts and just let them do it. I'm really, really worried that the installer at 4 Wheel doesn't know what the hell he's doing and that he'll install these $700 OEM 4.10 gears I bought and they're going to whine again and it'll screw them up and I'll have to buy yet another set.

I like the pricepoint of the Auburn (less expensive than a Detroit), I don't know anyone with one... that's why I asked. Just trying to get some feedback before I go buying more stuff.
