Default Aftermarket 4:10 Gear Whine

OK, so I've had a few people PM me asking about the noise level of the G2 4.10 gears and Auburn LSD that 4 Wheel Parts put in a couple of weeks ago. Here is a video of the whine at 50 and 60 MPH. As you'll hear, it's loud. So loud that you can hear it in the cab even with a Flowmaster Super 40 and the Resonators removed.

The truck will be back in the shop at 4 Wheel Parts to get this fixed on Thursday. Oh, and they'll be looking at the ESP light problem and giving me a ton of excuses as to why I need a Superchip programmer as well.

I had the same problem and you may recall my posts on the whine issue with G2 gears from 4WheelParts.

I just received notification from my credit card company that they issued a full charge back to 4Wheel parts due to my complaint.

The only whine I hear in my truck is when I am driving my SRT. Seriously though, that is bad, would not put up with that at all.

That really bites man .. a very very good friend of mine who passed away very recently was a master tech for ford about 20 years ago .. told me that rear ends are NOT easy to install .. it's NOT a pop in job .. rear ends require substantial know how and find tweeking and adjusting to ensure proper break in . and wear .. back then he went to fords rear end school .. was like a month of on hands training or somethin ...

sounds like you have a major problem there ..

and whats goin on with all those lights on the dash ?

I've never been inside a 9 and 1/4 Dana...but most have shims and this rear end is way out of whack. They have adjustments like spark plugs measured in the thousands and are very critical to the right settings. Some like 8 and 3/4 have no shims but can be adjusted by turns. Do not let these guys get away if it can not be tamed...it is their fault. Second...I seriously doubt they will because once you fry them like what may be happening now..it's hard to stop unless they are set too loose. After a few miles of driving...put your hand on the inspection cover...I'll have two eggs over medium while you're down there! And if you think you can..toss the gears and get your money back!
