Default sub install

have the alpine set up in my truck and i think it sounds pretty good, but i would like a bit more "bump" than what the factory sub has to offer. I went to a local audio shop and asked how much they would installl one pioneer sub,400w amp, and box they said 279.99 plus tax. Im wondering if thats a good deal or not? is it possible to just add it with the factory setup without losing any of the functions i have now?

At least they told you they could do it. I checked with a local shop here and they were clueless where to even start or how they could take the factory sub out. Needless to say I didn't try to use them.

Search the forum, I am pretty sure that "Doc Fluty" has done what you are wanting and posted pics.

Is that price just for the install?? Do you already have the parts? If that is just for the install, it is way too much. If it includes the box and sub, it seems a bit low.....but I don't know what amp or sub you are planning to use. You can add these things to the factory setup without losing any functions.

I was going to ask the same question, is that for parts or labor? I picked up a pioneer 10" premier sub for $49.00 and a pioneer GM-5400 amp for $99.00 this past Christmas. I finally made time to build my first fiberglass sub enclosure this spring break. It came out pretty good, but was a lot of messy work, it will sit under the drivers side rear seat. My neighbors said it looked like a sink, it sure does. I probably spent about $90.00 on materials. I have not mounted/wired the sub yet, I'll post some pics later.

Thx for the input guys. I already have a 400w boss amp its kinda crappy but i bought it from a buddy for $20 a while back and it hasnt been used once its still in its original box and everything so i figured ill just use that to power the sub. The local shop which is master audio is going to charge me 280 for the box,a pioneer sub, and the install. Im glad it can be done without losing any functions to the factory setup.

With what you're getting then the price doesn't seem too bad. Just picked up an amp, 10" sub and box and was over $600 and that isn't installed.

Depending on how deep you want to go cash wise there are other options...we'll see...to keep the factory stereo but replace everything else. JL (and others) have interfaces where you can tap off the factory radio, clean up the sound and push it out to better components. I'm in the middle of acquiring the parts for such an on taking but haven't read much on here about it. Seems most either just replace the speakers or replace everything including the head unit. Like I said...we'll see...

$280 for sub, box, amp and install doesnt sound too bad.

if you wire it up correctly you wont lose any factory speakers or sound.

be careful... one sub and a 400 watt amp doesnt sound like much. You may be wishing you shopped around and got a better set up..

You could get a class d alpine 600 watt amp on ebay for $250.. pair that with some dual 10s or 12s and you have something impressive.... i should know thats what i did lol
