Default Question about the "economy" mode...

Anyone know exactly how this works? I'm aware it "shuts off" 4 cylinders and then reactivates them when you need the power...but is it the same 4 every time? Does it cycle which 4 get shut off? I'm curious for details. Seems to me if it was the same 4 getting shut off every time it kicked in, that would create uneven wear and tear of my engine...

they dont shut off per say (stop going up and down) they only shut off the gas and valves that are in the same four cylinders, at least that is how i understand it, and i see your point since there is no combustion in those 4 cyl,

the 2010's also have fuel decal shutoff. So when you are coming to a stop or just coasting down a hill with your foot not pressing on the gas at all, fuel is shutoff to all 8 cylinders until you press the gas again (or when you stop or come close to stopping).

BMW or Benz (or both) have been perfecting this technology for at least 10 years. So I think we'll be alright.

Wear should not be an issue since the piston and rings are lubricated from below anyway. Should be pretty transparent.

The new 300's go down to 6 cylinders to help with transparent transition. I have it my truck and never noticed it in or out, Dont have the light
