Mines worked well for me so far. Actually has some features the Garmin doesn't. Took it Floridia with me and it worked fine. The seller of mine said he could help me get an updated map when ever I want. Don't think I'll need one for awhile though. Not a lotta new road building going on....

Yes, the Nuvi is a discontinued model, but still available as a refurb for little money, given the huge screen. I've had no complaints with the Nuvi or the CCCD camera. It has worked very well, and lets me hook up my trailer first time, every time. My only issue has been that the dash of my Ram doesn't let glue stick to it. I've tried the temporary adhesive mount that comes with the Nuvi, I've tried the permanent adhesive, and I've used some aftermarket 3M super bond adhesive, and after a few days the GPS just falls over, and the dash is clean with no residue. Prior to any install I have cleaned the area well with rubbing alcohol and I still can't get any of the GPS mounts to stick to the dash surface. For now I am using a large friction mount but I think I am going to drill into the dash and bolt the mount directly to it.

Thanks for all the info. I ordered the Nuvi 5000 last night. Going to order a camera once I see how everything works. It's a refurb but same factory warranty. I've got a E-Trex and love it, so I figure having the same programs for each will be nice too. I'll let you know how things turn out... now just up in the air for a plate mount or the one for the tailgate handle. Either way... E-Bay has them for $12.95 + $5.95SH. Also thinking ahead and getting a A/V switch for the glove box and hooking up a wired or wireless camera on the back of the snowmobile trailer. Was on here somewhere where a guy did that and hooked up a DVD to it as well.

I love new toys!!! Just wish the pocket book is as unlimited as the imagination.

Here is the camera I bought from Walmart: Xovision HTC35... $32.88 shipped.

It's also available from other sources.

IT IS ADEQUATE FOR TRAILER HOOK-UP BUT NOT MUCH MORE DUE TO NARROW FIELD OF VIEW. (Tech details: it's a CMOS versus CCD)

I mounted it in the tailgate latch same as GapRunr. It came with cam type adapters to angle it down but they were not angled enough. I had to modify them by 5 deg. to get the hitch ball in view.

I saved a few bucks and for me it was worth it since I had the time and tools to make the modifications.

BTW: I ran the video wire along the frame and entered the cab at the passenger front door hinge pillar through a pre-cut hole that had an OEM rubber grommet.

Which way do I want to go... CCD or CMOS? The factory is an Audiovox CMOS that I can get for $60, I can get a CCD (Sharp lens) with nightvision and 102deg view angle for $39 and a CMOS 130deg nightvision for @$20. All include free shipping. Also for the tailgate handle mount, I assume onece I take off the black tailgate protector it's pretty much open inside the tailgate like my last two rams... do I have to pull the handle to drill the mounting hole?

Thanks for all the help. Also, thanks for the info on where to run the video cable.

I dunno which is best tween CCD & CMOS. Those are good prices you quoted. Can you ID the sources? I may change mine out.

Yes, you have to pull the handle off and drill the hole but it's pretty easy. Once you view the backside.. you will see that there are mounting holes for the OEM camera and outline markings for the hole that needs to be drilled.

There are routing holes for the wires to & through the bottom of the tailgate.

Get a CCD with infrared. CCD will usually have a wider field of view, will have a higher picture quality, and the infrared will make night time look like day time.

I powered my camera from the reverse light feed, then ran the video cable along the factory harness up the drivers side of the truck.

Your camera looks great! I want to do the same thing. Right now I have a license plate mount that works good, but I like that flush look. What model of camera is that? Where did you get it at?

I bought 2 cmos with infrared and 9leds with a 150degree viewing area, I have to wait till I can get in and get my new nav unit scanned into the truck cuz i am using a lockpick to hook up the cams one up front one in the back there were 30 each came with holesaw and wiring. Will post picks much too hot here lately to get under my oil sprayed truck LOL. Well I have it installed or I should say both using a LOCKPICK and for some reason what I see in my mirror is opposite to what I see in the camera, same for the front camera. Sucks and not safe either. Anyone have any solutions.

I got it off of FleaBay and the vendor has a web site at

http://www.yantechusa.com

The picture quality has been great, day and night. I got this one...

http://www.yantechusa.com/cubecart/i...d&productId=12

but it was a lot cheaper back then.
