Default Using Ipod without uconnect on 2010 RAM

Hi everyone,

Just bought a 2010 Dodge RAM 1500 without the UCONNECT. The manual makes it sound like I should be able to just buy the Ipod cable and I should be able to control it through the head unit. Is that true? Or do I need to get the UCONNECT module as well? The parts dept can't give me a straight answer. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Matt

I think your only option without U Connect is to go through the AUX plug so no physical control of the Ipod from the radio.

Do you have the REN or RER radio? If you have one of those, you should be able to buy the i-Pod interface cable and control it through the radio. It is the best thing since sliced bread.

The RER has the U Connect built in but the REN does not. So where would you plug the cable into?

from my understanding, you will need a uconnect module. the ipod cord plugs into it, not the head unit.
the manufacturer of the head unit has changed since the '09 models but not the schematics, form what i understand.

Course, if you're going to buy the seperate module, might just want to spring for the allgig/mygig setup...

Thanks everyone for the quick replies! I have the RES radio, so I guess I'll have to get the unconnect module anyway. They said the truck is prewired for it, it just doesn't have the module. Oh well, might just be worth looking into an aftermarket navi with the ipod hookup already included. Thanks again!

better off to get the RER Headunit, it has the module built in then all you need is the cable.. you won't have the mic installed either so you'll have to get that if you want bluetooth. Plus you get nav

If I get the RER head unit do I need to get a different bezel or anything? Or will it bolt right in? Besides that, the only other item I'll need is the Ipod cable?
