I've seen a lot of folks complaining about this, but don't see it happening on my white truck. Maybe a decent set of mud flaps would solve your problem - I run the Mopar heavy duty variety.

If it's all coming from the brakes, a set of ceramic pads costs about $50 a set at O'Reilly. Otherwise it could just be crud from the road.

 

Hmmm I have had my 09 truck for over a year now, never seen any rust on the paint, this being said I wash it all the time maybe that has something to do with it.

 

I dont have rust on my paint, just everywhere else. My drive shaft is rusted, parts on my engine are rusted, and parts under my truck are rusted. Dealer said this is normal. After a year, it is hard to believe. I live in Louisiana, so no salt on road.

 

just noticed the brake dust specs on my truck. i have an '09 that i've owned now for about 1yr 3 mos.

took a detail guy out to have a look at my rims, because they are in rough shape after winter, and he pointed them out. said he can get it all cleaned up and then puts a paint sealer on the surface and should eliminate the problem entirely.

but to the point i wanted to make. it happens to all cars, it's not just our dodge trucks.

2 people i work with both have it on their vehicles. one drives a silver honda, the other a white kia.

 

Dodges aren't the only vehicles with the problem at hand. I've owned many cars and trucks and I always get these little spots on the paint. sometimes you can take your fingernail and pop them right off. Clay bar works great for it though. Gotta do my truck sometime this weekend too.

Thirty what's up with your rims I too am having problems with mine. I wash and dry my rims along with the rest of my truck once a week, and in the small cracks of the rims the plastichrome looks eaten away. Its a greenish brown color, had the same thing happen on my jeep has this happened to anyone else?

 

Turtle wax Chrome cleaner took it right off of mine.

 

they still shine nice, but up close you can see some dull area's between the mags.

also they seem to have dull water stains on them that i can't seem to remove.

it was a rough winter here in NE, so i'm guessing the salt and what not took it's toll on them. hopefully they aren't ruined.

have confidence though that they can be cleaned up.

 

I can't see how the hell brake dust gets on the roof and hood and trunk or the avenger? We cleaned it off and waxed the car and now the orange spots...which are not rust turns out to be bug **** looks very much like rust the car is warm from running and bug hover over the hood and you don't see it but the drop excrement and it drys on and sticks good. If you clay bar them off then wax it or seal it they will wash off easier. Also we are now using Armor All car wash soap with wax so that seems to be keeping the issue at bay.On the rims its not rust its black stuff that we have and issue with, but clean them with soap and water at least once a week and they are great.

 

Put ceramic pads on your truck and be done with it. I do not get these spots on my truck, not because of the color, but mostly due to keeping a good coat of wax on my truck and washing weekly. It never allows the surface of the truck to become "rough enough" for things to stick to it.

Bottom line is the spots are metallic particles on top of your paint, not the metal under your paint. The metallic particles can come from many sources. Trains "rail dust" being one of them. Metallic brake pads being another. I think the wheel design has a lot to do with how brake dust gets distributed over the vehicle. You could also live near an area or work near an industrial area that has some fall out.
