Anybody Tow a Fifth Wheel?
Don't even consider a "bumper hitch", as bumpers these days are built as part of the "energy absorbing crush system" rather than as a solid structural member.
I had to replace my rear bumper after someone backed into it while in a WallyWorld parking lot - not more than 2-3MPH. It was bent AND twisted AND so was one of the mounts.
I remember my stepfather pulling a sizeable stump from the backyard with just a chain looped around the bumper of our old Power Wagon. These are NOT my stepfather's old bumpers !!

bumper hitch is just a spot for the license plate these days. I think they should just put the plate in the tailgate, and just do a rollpan since the bumper is so thin anyway and so close to the quarters that i bet they would get dinged in a small accident. at least with a rollpan and a bumper behind it like they do the plastic bumpers it would be better looking and stronger. JMHO
I pull a 1998 Gulfstream Aero Lite 5th wheel. Its about 4500 lbs dry.Don't know the pin weight.Truck pulls it just fine with power to spare.I don't need air bags as the sag is minimal.Tow/haul works great.

Tha Factory option Hitch is a class IV. I think.
you're right the factory option hitch is a class IV, as for the fifth wheel i think you'll be just fine. i just got my hitch in my crew cab this weekend and hooked up to my 21ft terry resort (granted it's empty right now) but it handles it much nicer than than my 06 with the leaf spring suspension ever did.

nope no special hitch required. the hitch in this truck is the 17000lb dsp hitch i had in my 06 quad cab, (took it out of the truck before i turned my 06 in) all i had to do was buy the bracket kit from dsp for the new coil over suspension so i could mount it to the frame of the truck and that was it, cost me a total of $150 canadian. biggest thing to watch is the length of the hitch pin box on the trailer. i could jack knife this trailer past 90 degrees on my qc without sliding the hitch to the rear position but this truck i can only go about 45 degrees then i have to slide the hitch back, but these trucks are more than capable of handling fifth wheels.
Hi Dodgeystyle, do you have a picture or part number of the brackets that you bought for your truck? I looked on DSP's website and don't see them listed. I think my Hemi CC would tow my fifth wheel better than my 1998 quad cab. Thanks.
