I realize this is going to sound ignorant and I'll get smacked around - but I'd like to know. If the diameter of the 17" spare is the same as the stock 20's, the speed rating on the spare seems to be the only real issue, right? And if that is the issue, just replace the tire and save yourself the cost of a rim/wheel. It's a spare, so cosmetics aren't a big deal (atleast not where I live).

If the diameter isn't the same, definitely upgrade the tire so it doesn't excessivly wear the spiders and destroy the clutches in the limited slip.

Flame on... gentlemen.

Its a little bit shorter according to the tire size, like 1/4 inch or so, that shouldnt do any harm to the LSD since its temp use anyhow. But thats just going by the numbers, my guess is they are very close in diameter for them to put it on limited slip trucks.

There is no normal 17" tire thats really close without getting too wide to fit on the temp spare rim, 235/85/17 isnt available in a regular tire from what I can see.

255/75/17 is common but its an inch shorter. I would just see if one of the 20" wheels off the truck fits in there, the 17 inch these come with stock are 265/70/17s and are 1.5 inches smaller in diameter than the stock 20s so one of those for a spare wont work either.

You should take one of your wheels off and see if you can put it up there now, if you are gonna put a chrome clad up there, I am wondering how long before the plastic sustains major damage, unless you put some type of protection in there. That metal hook or hanger will rip the crap out of the plastic, you need a 17 inch wheel that is wide enough to accept a proper sized tire that will match what you have on your 20" in diameter. I think I am gonna get a travel trailer so I am gonna buy 8 17 inch matching rims for the trailer and truck....not sure what I can find or if I will have to change hubs on the trailer or what. If it is a problem then just he truck will get a nice set of 17: rims and some GY Silent Armours, or some BFG's not sure which ones....maybe just T/A's if they have the right size that will work. I have always loved them.

The 17" 235/85/17 Limited-Use Spare is only a 2-ply (per some docs only 1-ply) with a very narrow tread patch that exposes the bare shoulders and even sidewalls to any but the smoothest of road surfaces. If your main tire is blown-out by some form of "road hazard" such as sharp rocks or potholes, and you are forced to put this spare on, you had best hope that the road home turns out to be VERY SMOOTH and clean.

As a joke, Dodge even stuck this "baldy" as the spare on the 4x4 models with 20" mains - SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie...

I'd be more concerned with which tire on the truck blew out as well as if I have a heavy payload than speed. That's what Auto Club is for......FTW! Come fix my tire or flatbed me to place that can!!! LOL

My window sticker says full size spare and does not mention temporary use only. The manual says it will have a warning sticker on the tire and wheel assembly. Anybody have a picture of what this sticker/warning label looks like? I can't find any warning or temporary label on my spare or wheel, just a lime green round sticker on the tire with no writing.
