Default Radio Hard Drive question

What is the best way to transfer a lot of music into your radio HDD? I have close to 30 gigs on my computer and would like to put it all in the truck. I have a thumb drive USB, but its only 3 GB. So, what is the best way to do it other then making 10 trips from the computer to truck USB port? Can you transfer from 8 GB DVD data discs? Thanks.

First off less than 20 of those 30 GB are free for mp3s (I want to say its around 17 GB free). The rest is already used up by maps and software. So you'd be looking at a max of 5 to 6 trips with your 3 GB thumb drive. The only thing easier than a 3 GB thumb drive would be a 16 GB thumb drive. I only have a 2 GB thumb drive and I just fill it up with music I feel like listening to before going on a drive and uploading it while I commute. The more data you upload, the longer it takes. My 2 GB drive can take around 10-12 minutes, so I'm not sure I'd want to upload much more than that at a time anyway. So take your time and spread your uploading trips out would by my suggestion. That's what I do and it works for me.

I got the 430. Basically the touch screen without the GPS. I did notice song capacity was greater on this model. I hear you though that you wouldn't get all 30. Maybe without the maps and only software 25 or so???

cool, I'll just look around for a cheaper thumb drive or just make due.

Should be a lot more memory than 17gb. The Media Center 430 (REN or RBZ) isn't the GPS radio.

There is a feature in the menus on the MyGig to check free space. It was a while ago but when my hard drive had no mp3s loaded on it, I checked and it had under 20 GB free for sure. I want to say it was 17, but am not 100% sure, which is why I gave the disclaimer. I'd check now, but my HD is loaded up with songs so the size of the maps and software would not be accurate. Can someone with a virgin MyGig check their free space and let us know?

Mine says 27.9 GB free. That is before loading anything to it.

And again, there are no maps on a REN or RBZ radio to take up space.

OK cool. Now we just need someone with a virgin RER to report on their free space. Thank you for checking and posting.

sounds good. 27.5 I think is what my IPOD 30GB actually has space for.

How well are songs organized on the REN? Can you create playlists? Is there some kind of software bundle or something to load on a PC to create playlists and manage your files?
