Need Input on Rear Diff
LSD makes a HUGE difference in 4x4.
I think that you need to do a bit more research. The 4x4 switch doesnt mean that all of a sudden all 4 wheels are working. If you have an open rear end you still will only have 1 rear tire turning and on 1/2 tons the front diff can only be open, so you only have 2 wheel drive while locked in 4x4. If you have a LSD rear end then you have 3 wheel drive.

Sort of. Having an LSD means that you are more likely to have 3 wheel drive. LSD's don't ever really lock, and if you have one of the wheels fully off the ground its unlikely that the one on the ground will get power unless the traction control also kicks in and brakes the wheel in the air.

I'm fully aware of how a 4x4 works and have owned/driven several- both with LSD and without. I will concur that I do not have to worry about driving in snow so maybe a 4x4 with LSD helps in that situation (???), but in all of my years as a hunting guide on several South/Central Texas ranches I've NEVER had a problem getting where I needed to go with an open diff 4x4 nor did I notice much of a difference between a LSD and an open diff. To each their own.
Happy trails.

Well I had decided that I was goint to regear my 2001 to 4:10 and add a air locker to the rear but to my suprise the locker is not available for the 9.25. So I am back to looking at the Detroit Locker. Any opinions?
Small incline and wet fescue grass and a horse trailer is enough to do it here.Type of tire does make a difference but my tire of choice has always been a highway tread since thats where my trucks are usually driven.
