drivetrain problems...one after another :(
i guess its worth mentioning that we test drove the nissan at the local dealer then bought it elsewhere then kept bringing it to the local for things they couldnt fix. the service mgr gets paid whether they fix under warranty or turn you away. he made up two different scenarios to get the warranty people to deny us coverage. its the dealership that doesnt make the money. how many employees have you met that care about more than just their own paycheck. he still got paid the same without rebuilding the diff and transfer case as he would of if he dealt with that headache. sound like a no brainer and trust me. he was a no brainer! I can never reccomend anyone to formula nissan in vermont. go to freedom nissan but I wouldnt buy nissan if i were you. he sells lots of good used cars. The owner of freedom nissan said straight out, why did you bring it to formula. this wouldnt have happened if you came here first. well it happened! i love my dodge guys at midstate and have no worries with them.
gentlemen, I really do not want to turn this thread into a "Shoudl I get a free Rental or not". I could care less if I they give me a loaner/rental or not. YES, it is a big disapointment and an inconvenience but lets look at the big picture.
What could be causing this clunk or thud/push upon stop and on acceleration?
Is this mass spread or there are only isolated instances?
Trucks that have this issue: 2 wheel drive or 4x4?
Production year?
So far I have seen 2 very good suggestions for resolution: Software flash and/or torque converter.
I would like to add the transfer case in case it is only happening on 4x4 RAMs.
Lets try and solve this before I have to hit the dirt roads for deer season

No I don't.As of two weeks ago it was the latest flash.I have had mine checked three times after the last update.I'm hoping they will do away totally with the 500 rpm idle under no load. The latest flash(about 9 months old) addresses idle quality and trans shift. If a tech hooks it up it tells him if there the truck has the latest software update.Mine had BAD bump stop.Felt like you got tapped in the rear by another car.Its the downshift to low with the 500 rpm idle combo.
The driveshaft and or the diff will not give you a bump. If it did the joints would be trashed or the dif would whine like a banshee. Switching between drive and reverse will produce noise from the lash. Usually the bump at a stop is a shift/ valve body issue, stuck in a higher gear and at the last second bumps down to first. If you drive with 2 feet like I do once in a while i have a little gas pressure on while stepping on the brake, coming to a stop. This will cause a definite bump on a stop. Lastly there is electronic control of the lock up torque converter. If its on the fritz, it will create the same condition.
On the diff rebuild they are touchy. Upon assembly the lash has to be just right and the gearset has to be good quality. If there is one nick in a gear or a bad bearing, it will take the diff out in short order. Nothing is perfect, sometimes it just happens. Even lexus has a service department!
