Default When one RAM just isn't enough...

Forgive me, a little gloat here.

I've had my 09 1500 Laramie for a year, and it was financed in both mine and my wife's names. We come to buy a house, and need to finance it in her name only (as I already have a mortgage on another property). So I need to refi the truck loan to get her off it, so she qualifies for the new mortgage. No-can-do on the refi (no-one wants to refi large sums these days), but I was qualified for a trade in on my '09 for a '10 (as the tied lender (GMAC) is motivated to sell new trucks). So after much machination, I now have a 2010 Laramie in Inferno red.

The thought occurs to me overnight that I really didn't want to trade the 09, I loved that truck, but it was all in the best interest of moving up to the new house. I wonder if I could trade the wife's Aspen for the old truck....

...and so it came to pass that I called the dealer, and they said "same payment".

Nearly good... except yesterday morning, my wife gets rear-ended in the Aspen, causing $2k of damage to it. So I take it down to the dealer, and they agree to give me even more for it than I had agreed on the phone (based on the pre-accident condition), and take care of claiming the damage back from the rear-ender. So I end up with my old truck back, no hassle of accident repair, no value-loss on the Aspen due to Carfax report, and my wife is qualified for the new house! Not to mention his n' hers RAMS

Wow, that's awesome. I'd never be that lucky to get everything to work out. If I tried something like that, there would be a bank error or something.

So, which one are you keeping and which is the wife getting?

Oh, I forgot to mention that saving yourself from the headache of the wreck alone is probably the best part of this. My wife was rearended in September by a taco truck, and it wasn't till just a week or so ago that we finally got all the payments and everything taken care of.

Thanks guys! Wife gets the new red one, I get my beloved brown truck back.

I agree with the wreck headache thing too. In reality, it wasn't wrecked, but it would still have a been a royal pain to work through.

Congrats on the new truck, I have the identical truck. Hope you didnt get a Friday truck like I did. It's been in the shop 3 times for a dead battery and now they said it's the factory NAV unit, has been at the dealership since April 3rd and the dealership said, "don't plan on seeing it back before the first week in May".

Thats what I say. The other good thing is you will be able to tell when one is not running right compared to the other.
