Not Happy with Dodge
I can honestly say I bought mine without checking the gear ratio.... dumb move. I lucked out though and got 3.55's. I do wish it had 3.92's but the price they gave me on this one made me jump on it and when driving it, it felt great, still does. But seeing as how I jumped to 35's, the 3.92's would have been perfect. When I was building them on site, I always cose them, just forgot to look when buying. I could have ended with the 3.21's. Can't be pissed with Dodge about it though.
And ALL trucks come with a choice of gears, Chevy, Ford, Toyota and I am sure the others as well. They are not a one size fits all setup. Unless you plan on towing a huge trailer, the 3.21's will do the job just fine. With my tire change, we are probably pretty close.
My MDS is so silky it almost turns me on. Unless you like things rough, get it checked out.

First truck you have ever bought?
BTW - I've got the 3.21's, but that is what I wanted. Tows fine and gets great milage at highway speeds.
i wont flame you but i agree that you could have done more research. to be honest, gears was not something i thought about either. i had a few deal breaker points like Hemi, floor shifter, duals and 20"s. it just so happens that the Big Horn had all of those and came with 3.92's. you can not buy a truck for gas mileage so i didnt care what gears it had. i didnt realize how fortunate i was to have 3.92's until i started reading about all these people regretting not getting them lol
Due dilligence is one of the buyers biggest weapons/asset they can have, salesman is never gonna give you the straight up, not to say there are none out there that are truthful, you have to go buying a vehicle expecting at every turn they are either pushing the deal while your paying more or telling you want you want to hear so they can sell a unit and make some $$, like others have said, get the motor issue addressed and see how you like it and mod it the way you want it.
I bought a 2010 Ford F150 2WD s-crew last November and have to say truck month (march) couldn't get here fast enough to help me get out of that mistake! I will never buy a 2WD again!! Also, I tried to convince myself that I was supporting a company that didn't get a govt bailout (and didn't even bother to testdrive a GM vehicle). This time around I did a lot of research on 4wd trucks from the big 3 and decided to try out the new Chevys and dodge as well as the ford. I've never owned a dodge truck (did own a magnum and a caravan- both were POS's!) but after doing a considerable amount of research and a few test drives I knew the new Ram was the truck for me. I made a list of must have options and some nice luxuries and decided that the Lonestar package was perfect for me. I can honestly say for the first time that this is a vehicle I LOVE to drive!
I'm sorry you have buyers remorse based on the gears but trust me those gears are perfectly fine, unless you plan on regularly towing heavy loads or throwing on oversized tires. You can always change gears later if that is a must. Your remorse is probably just from the flack those gears get on discussion forums (just like comparing the 4.7 to the hemi) but it all boils down to the fact that it's your truck and as long as it fits YOUR needs then you should be happy.

Salesmen will hardly ever mention gear ratio because they aren't sure what the customer wants.
Some want a lower gear ratio for pulling, off roading, and acceleration while others want a high gear ratio for MPG, so the salesmen say nothing because they don't want to say it has 3.92s when you want 3.21s or say it has 3.21s when you want 3.92s.
Simple as that.
Point is, read the sticker to know each and every option it has.
When we went to choose our truck I singled out the colors I would accept and before getting in the truck the first thing I did was read the window sticker.
