Default Painting plastic engine cover-pic added

Ok so i saw a guy on here that painted the plastic engine cover(orange sunburst one), and it got me thinking i would try that. I am just going to clean, sand and then use metalic blue spray paint with metal flakes in it. I have the deep pearl blue sport. Is it a bad idea to use that kind of paint? I don't think it gets hot enough to start a fire in there and its not touching any hot metal(I don't think they would put plastic right there if it could melt). So just wondering if you guys think that would work and I know it is just spray paint but if i don't like it I will just keep it off as planned.

If you are going to use spray paint, you might want to try some plastic specific type of paint/primer, not the colormatched automotive stuff directly over the plastic. You might have better luck with it sticking to the plastic that way. That guy said he had an autobody shop do his, I'm sure there is a lot of prep work into making the paint stick to the plastic... just my guess though.

I doubt it will catch on fire, there is a lot more flamable stuff in the engine bay.

less prep than you would think, spray some 'adhesion promoter' on, prime then paint.

Looks very nice. What brand/color paint did you go with?

It just says metal flakes on the can and it had a metalic blue top on it. Sorry not sure exactly what brand though.

I wonder if the paint u used could handle a few clear coats would really make that blue pop but if instead it bubbles don't blame me.
It does look good for a rattle can job though.

I was thinking about that. I could do a test spray on the corner and see if it bubbles. LOL I was real hesitant about doing it but it is growing on me(just another mod). If i didn't like it i was planning on keeping the cover off anyways. I think it looks good and it goes good with my deep pearl blue sport.

Dupli-color..metal specks

I'll post a pic when it is on, and it kinda matches the blue on my volant intake too.

Something else you could do would be to paint the letters black or silver or something.

I'm looking forward to the pics of it on.
