Afe cai
Just wondering if anybody has put on the AFE cold air intake. stage 2 kit. i just ordered one so hoping to see it arrive in the next couple weeks. i know some guys who swear on AFE over K&N. I have the true flow XDI which was alright but was looking at going with something other than a foam filter.
well i finally got a chance to install the AFE.
my old XDI

intallation (had to dig out my original airbox and use part of it.

finished install

didnt take long and the parts fit perfectly. its seals up to the hood very good from what i could tell just looking while the hood was almost closed and i found that around the 4600-5500 rpm range my engine doesnt make this sound that i always thought sounded like something wasnt right. the filter is easyer to get at since the old one there wasnt quiet enough room to pull the filter off without taking out some bolts and what not. i go back to work tomorrow so ill see if anything is different on the 200km drive there!

If that seals to your hood, then what is the advantage ? The intake tube to the fender is the same airflow. Sorry man but I would have kept the xdi over this one or just used a K&N drop in.
if you look at the XDI where the air gets in.....its dirty. lots of splash up. my truck i use as a truck. its in the bush weekly and is no highway princess. i also like the ease of cleaning this filter over the foam as well as accessibility. im not sure how much hot engine air is sucked in through the open filter but maybe being enclosed will help the temperature as well as maybe not so much mud and water gettin on the filter itself. also my buddy who works at a diesel performance shop recommends afe over k&n just for the added filtration. not saying they do but he says they catch more dust and junk than K&N.
I'll stick with stock. From what gains I read they give(very little)and what they cost.I'll leave well enough alone.NOW if your doing a LOT more performance mods by all means buy one.Otherwise save your money.
i had the XDI... and now i have the mopar.. and i cant honestly say that the mopar (being better sealed) is really any better.
but both are a big improvement over stock
