I have Puma by Palomino. It is only a 19ft, got a killer deal on it and paid 7 grand less then the guy owed on it since he wanted/needed to sell it ASAP. They were giving him 8 less for trade in, so I offered 7 less and told him he would have the money tomorrow.

Great trailer, works well, pulls nice. Only issue is it is heavy compared to others. I had a 1 ton when I bought it so I never cared, but it will deffinately max out the 1/2 ton. Needed air bags for sure.

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7 HEMI, 3.92 gears and pull a 2010 Keystone Outback 312BH that has a dry weight of 7300lbs. Truck has a max towing weight of 9100lbs. It tows it just fine. Its probably pushing the numbers a little bit, but I drive it pretty easy and mostly on flat trips.

Ok went out this weekend and actually looked at some different models that are out there...saw some that I really liked and some that we didn't. I really liked the Milan Eclipse and the North Country by Heartland. I'm a novice when it comes this...if you truck is rated to tow 7450 max, what TT size should we be looking for. One salesman told me that a weight distributing hitch would allow me to tow more than 7450. Should I worry about maxing the TT out since I will never go dry camping...just a city boy who still loves convience.

I'll second that. Especially in Canada. Check out forums for the type of trailer you are interested in for a more in depth look. Get a load distributing hitch and don't go more than 80 % of the capacity of your truck. Remember that the Dodge tow rating is with 150 lbs driver and no cargo. I weighed 150 lbs for a couple of days when I was 12 years old. They expect you to subtract the weight of the load in the truck from tha towing capacity. It goes down fast.

Borrowed from ForestRiverforums.com

"A quick rule of thumb is to multiply the overall trailer length by 5, and that is what the minimum wheel base (in inches) of the truck should be. Also, you can go by this chart:

110" 20' ******* 150" 30'
114" 21' ******* 154" 31'
118" 22' ******* 158" 32'
122" 23' ******* 162" 33'
126" 24' ******* 166" 34'
130" 25' ******* 170" 35'
134" 26' ******* 174" 36'
138" 27' ******* 178" 37'
142" 28' ******* 182" 38'
146" 29' ******* 186" 39'

"""""

This gives the max length of the trailer.

i used to have a 28' 5th wheel behind a 2002 ram 1500 with the 4.7L. i pulled it up through north georgia, tennessee, and north carolina and it pulled it fine. it was 5700lbs empty and i know it was more than i should pull but its a truck, u can do alot more than what dodge says u can. be safe with it though. i have pulled a 7100lb track hoe behind my new ram plus the trailer and it does great and im in a hilly area, just remember what u have behind u.

I've been interested in the smaller lighter 5th wheel Toy Haulers, since most Toy Hauler Trailers have a rather heavy tongue weight (even with load distro hitch and air bags). But every dealer hears "Crew Cab" and "Short Bed", and starts to hmmm and haw. On top of it, I've got the RamBox which does narrow the bed walls by about a foot.
But, it's all an issue of configuring the Gooseneck, isn't it ??
Who here has pulled a 5th wheel with their Crew Cab ?? What's the real "trick" ??
