Default Mopar Exhaust Tip

Does anyone on here have the single exhaust with the Mopar Chrome Exhaust tip? I want to see one and make sure it doesn't stick out too far with the bend in the tailpipe impeding it from going on too far.....any pics would be much appreciated. Dealer says it won't stick out too far, but I think their definition of too far and mine are totally different. From my calculations its approx 11" to the bend in the tailpipe, and the Mopar parts website says its overall length is 14". I guess maybe I just can't picture exactly how thats gonna look sticking out 3+"....

I was going to buy a Magnaflow tip similiar but shorter, but theres a 15% mopar accessories sale here right now that I can get the Mopar tip cheaper.

Thats the Mopar one I was referring to with the 14" overall length. The picture is a 3rd Gen I am pretty sure from the downward angle of the tailpipe. Do you have this installed on your 4th Gen? If so can you post a picture?

No, I installed a Magnaflow dual exhaust system, it has different tips. I don't think the 4th generation Rams have their own tip, from all the other Mopar sites I've seen, they recommend using the tip pictured on our 4th gens as well. I almost bought this tip before I switched to duals, I just thought the tip made our Ram look cheap, so I went with duals.Good luck in finding a better tip, I gave up after checking atleast 10 Mopar part websites.

Thanks....its too bad. I think the Mopar tip would be perfect if only it were about an inch shorter! Most 3rd party tips are between 10-12" which I think are just a bit too short. Unless anyone else has some evidence that the 14" tip looks good on a 4th gen then I guess I will have to keep looking.

I've never installed an exhaust tip before, but doesn't it just clamp on to your stock tail pipe? If you want it shorter why can't you just cut an inch off the stock tail pipe before installing the new tip?

Yea I was thinking the same thing, just cut what you want off and yes, it just clamps on the exhaust pipe.

Because the issue is that the chrome exhaust tip can't slide on far enough so it sticks out past the end of the stock tailpipe over 3" which in turn makes it look like its sticking out 4" from under the truck which I think just doesn't look right. Cutting the stock tailpipe would be counterproductive since the problem is that where pipe bends upward toward the resonator it is impeding the chrome tip from sliding on any further. I guess the problem here isn't necessarily with the length of the stock tailpipe, its more the position of the resonator and the downward piece off of that. If the resonator and descending part of the stock tailpipe was another 2-3" underneath the truck then the horizontal part of the tailpipe would be longer which is what is needed. Cutting an inch off the stock pipe would just mean the end of the stock pipe would be 4" from the end of the chrome tip once its installed, but the end of the chrome tip would still stick out just as far as before.

I don't know if that makes sense or not......

After all that explanation, I am a little woozy, lol lol. It sounds like you really want something thats made specifically for the single exhaust system(4th Gen) All I can really say, surf the net a little more and eventually I'm sure a company(If not already) will make one available. Another option is to check some various chrome tips at Autozone etc. I know in the past I've had friends that have used cosmetic parts(usually exhaust tips) from other makes(Ford,GM etc) and made them work on their own cars. Good luck man.

Ya, I was a little confused myself after writing it. Thats why I ended with "I don't know if that makes sense..." lol

Chrysler tried to tell me that the Mopar tip was for the '09 as well but I don't buy it for a couple reasons. A) the install instructions say its only supposed to stick out past the end of the stock tip by 1.5" and B) Most places other than Mopar that have the tip (i.e: ebay, dodge accessory stores etc) clearly say its something like 03-08 only.

Why wouldn't Chrysler advertise that as well and make a 4th Gen specific tip?
