Hi There I just bought a new Black hemi 4x4 and was wondering if you could help me with a couple of questions please?

* With the Truck being new, would you automatically hook up to a 3000lb boat and haul it to the lake? The lake is 2.5 hrs on hiway!

* How soon should first oilchange be?
* cheapest way to get some good deep rumble out of her? Not Obnoxious!
* Lastly would you take a extended 5 yr warranty for $2500 its being offered to me it says full comp and free oilchanges for 5 years or a 100k! I kinda think its pricy and a buddy says theres always something the stealers wont cover or add a nice little extra $$$ when you least expect it! I havent had a new truck in my 40 years please help guys! thanks

Here's a few things:

1) No it's brand new and you need to break in the motor. I wouldn't tow right away but some others may have a different opinion. I'd wait until you have at least 500 miles on it.

2) Various types of mufflers. I stay with stock but plenty of others have used various mufflers so the debate can begin on which one is best.

3) ABSOLUTELY NOT! You can purchase the Lifetime Maxcare Chrysler warranty for between $1575-1675. Since you bought a 2010 it didn't already come with the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty so the Lifetime Maxcare might be a bit more but it would be less than what you were offered for 100K warranty. I purchased mine for $1650 from the dealer I bought my truck from. The only catch is that it's not transferable except in FL and some other state. If you plan to keep the truck a long time which it sounds like you do from your post, GET THE LIFETIME MAXCARE! It's a no brainer and you'll be glad you did!

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS

A long break-in period is not required for the engine in
your vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km).
After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable. While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the limits of local traffic laws, contributes to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided. The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a
high-quality energy conserving type lubricant. Oil changes should be consistent with anticipated climate conditions under which vehicle operations will occur. The recommended viscosity and quality grades are
shown in Section 7 of this manual. NON-DETERGENT OR STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS MUST NEVER BE USED.

I would follow the recommendations for a break-in and not tow for the first 300 miles.

If you have an EVIC system it will tell you when to change the oil. If you have the base instrument panel follow the recommendations of the documentation given to you with the truck as a minimum.

 

Hello. Congrats on the new ride... I just bought a new 1500 myself on Tuesday... I'm only 23 and this is my FIRST truck! I don't think I'll ever buy another normal car again unless it's a fast car like my old 300C SRT8.

Personally I wouldn't recommend that you haul a 3000LB boat 2.5 hours to a lake with 0 miles on the thing. I have 125 miles on my truck now and I'll be hauling my 4000LB boat into the water a short 5 miles from where the boat is next weekend... i got the truck just in time as I'm predicting that it will have around 300 miles by next weekend.

Also, when the time comes to change my oil I will MOST DEF use 5W20 Mobil One fully synthetic with a Mobil One oil filter as well as that is what I've put in all 4 of the new vehicles that I've bought over the last 5 years and it's treated me VERY well.

 

You're supposed to change it after 6 months or 10,000 kilometers, according to my manual. My odometer/thermometer spot told me to change it about 2.5 weeks before I hit 6 months, so your truck will let you know.

 

First oil change - anywhere from 3500-5000 miles, roughly. EVIC will pop on, but that's what the dealer told me and sure enough right around 4800 EVIC said to change my oil.

 

as far as muffler, everyone has their preferences. as for me, i got the Flowmaster Super 40 with the resonators removed and nice long tips. they have to cut out the resonators to fit the tubes. sounds great to me though.

 

I changed my factory oil when the truck hit 3000 miles, and replaced it with full synthetic Mobil-1 that I change every 7500 miles.
