Default Transmission or Torque Convert Problem?????

Hey everyone, I'm new here, hope you all can provide some help before going back to the dealer again.

I bought a 2010 Ram with the Hemi a few months back. It has had some issues and Dodge has treated me great so far, mainly due to a paint issue. However, around 500 miles I noticed an issue. The truck now has 2500 miles on her and it still is doing this.......On deceleration at 40MPH the rpm's come up a little and it feels like the gears hold a bit then release into the next down gear. Also, when the truck has a full throttle acceleration I tend to notice 3-4 gear hits kinda hard(I believe this is the same shift point during the deceleration that I notice the hold) Also my MDS is very noticeable when it goes back into 8 cylinders from the 4 cylinders. Oh, and this is more noticeable once the truck is warm.

Any thoughts out there, thanks??????

My truck hiccups every now and then when it downshifts after driving at continuous highway speeds. It pauses with a decrease in RPM and power then it feels like it upshifts and lugs (in 5th??), then it slams in to 3rd gear. I don't know if it's an MDS problem or a trans problem.

But because it's an intermittent problem and no codes come up, Dodge says that nothings wrong, but even when they do find something wrong, they always say, "That's just the way it is". If I ask them if they'd drive this truck across 200 miles of desert pulling 5000 lbs of boat behind it, they just say, "that's your choice".

That doesn't give me a real confident feeling.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but like I said, if they can't find any codes stored in the computer, then they are lost. There aren't mechanics anymore, they are "technicians". They don't follow a hunch, they only follow a set of parameters that are given to them by the factory.

Good luck on getting your problem sorted out.

I agree - no real mechanics anymore. If the computer doesn't tell them the problem and/or the book doesn't say what part to replace, then it's either "Cannot duplicate problem" or "normal for the vehicle".

I would say take it in. I used to be a freak about rattles, jiggles, odd noises, shift points, brake noises....and this truck has none. I would dare someone to ride in it with a blind fold and tell me when the MDS light comes on. I was gonna put fatmat inside the doors but its already in there almost the whole front drivers door. Only one I took off so far. I have some fatmat left over from my chevy I bought 2 big rolls one heavy duty for floors etc. and you can even use it under the hood but I didn't just the firewall, floor, doors, gas tank, back wall pretty much the complete interior. I think my RAM is very well insulated.
If it is under warranty especially take it in and complain ya gotta do it a transmission is expensive. I wish mine shifted a bit harder especially when playing around pretending it has stick changing gears manually. Would be cool to get a chirp between switching gears. My 180 HP chevy can chirp between 1st and second once in a while. With brand new BFG Radial T/A's

Make sure that the latest computer re-flash has been done.It addresses shift and engine performance. When they hook it to a scan tool it will tell them if its up to date or not.

Wells folks here the answer to my concerns. They say the shifting is based on my driving habits and is performing to manufactures standards. They said it re-calibrated at 1000 miles and will do so again at 7000 miles based on how I'm driving. (guess I need to slam it down a little vs. pampering my beast) They said they could reset the shift points and see, but expected the truck to perform in the same manner. The service director, a great guy, said let it be for now. And while driving it home I could notice it less, so that's what I'll do unless it worsens. Oh, and one thing I had left out, I had a ticking sound on the passenger side at idle. Keep in mind I have a 2010 with a build date in September. They said it was normal injector noise. However, after an oil change and and RRT 10-020 the tick, for now and hopefully forever, is gone.

Now lets see if my new service director can get my tailgate replaced due to a dealership's body shop I'll never go back to and now "no longer" wants my business, that broke a tailgate bushing while fixing a minor paint defect, that turned into a major paint defect, which in turn causes the whole tailgate needing to be replaced. We'll see if Chrysler makes them replace it or I'll have to continue my BBB complaint and possibly a small claims case. My service director wants to see if Chrysler will replace it due to all the previous issues at that dealership, but I don't think Chrysler should foot the bill, but the dealership should. They should pressure and be firm with the previous dealership and make the suck up their losses for their lack of care and proper service. Gee, it's amazing how one dealership to the next is so different.

Oh, on more question. My driver door is out of alignment. It's not noticeable, unless you stare and stare and stare, you get the point. But, my dealership agrees it's out of alignment but hesitates re-adjusting because it may in turn cause wind noise to appear. What would you guys do and what do you think of the answers to the shifting concern? Thanks, fellas.

Mallardmarshal, if your door is out of alignment, do not have it laigned at your dealership, it might cdost you another replacement doo........find another compitent dealer........these trucks are made to drive hard, try it for a while and see if the shifting ahappens the same way.....

I think I may have the answer to your problem, it may not be a problem its a new 2010 feature that I am glad I don't have.

Chrysler’s new Interactive Decel Fuel Shut-Off (iDFSO) system, introduced in 2010 on all DS powertrain combinations (3.7, 4.7, and 5.7-liter) and cab/box configurations of the Ram 1500, cuts fuel to the engine during deceleration, boosting real-world city and highway gas mileage, dependent on conditions and driving style. And to address that driving style, Ram has also added a fuel-saver indicator that turns on when the truck is being driven within the optimal range for fuel economy.
