rear end howl
there is a thread going on ramforumz.com about some guys that have the same rear end howl on their 2010 rams at the 40-50 mph range. one guy thinks it is cheap rear axles. no one seems to have an answer yet and dealers are saying thats just the way it is. i havent got mine looked at yet, but we all agree this is very unacceptable for a brand new truck. have any of you guys heard anything ?
I had a ****ty gear install that whined like a banshee from 40 to 70 MPH. Turned out the gears were eating into each other. I'd make them open the diff and inspect it. There's no way a new truck with OEM gears should be howling if everythings setup right.
It's probably either a bad install/setup from the factory or a part is failing and is causing the noise. Either way they should try and fix it, I suggest trying another dealer and if that's not an option appeal directly to chrysler/dodge. Has it gotten louder over time or was it always howling from 40-50 mph?
Mine howls at lower speeds only - between 40-60kmh (25-40mph) It has done it since new. Dealer claims they can't hear anything but I can hear it clearly even with the radio on. At higher speeds, there is no howl at all which is strange. Also, it hasn't gotten any worse - YET. BTW I have 3.92's.
I HAVE 3:92'S and mine has done this starting around 2k and now I have 16k on it. It hasent gotten any louder. It starts around 4omph and goes away around 55mph. If I lift the gas I can make it go away. It only does it under a load. The dealer was going to replace mine, but they couldn't guarantee that the sound would go away. It's gear noise and a new set of gears may or may not fix it. They said with the lifetime warranty to just drive it till it bombs. I think alot has to do with how quiet these trucks are inside. You can hear everything.
