Default trip to tenn. with superchips & 3.55 gears! info inside!

ok, i just had to rave about my dodge ram and superchips programmer. i have an 09 QC sport with 3.55 4x4.

mods, 14magnaflow, k&n drop in, mobil 1 oil, thats about it for perf. mods.

i have all the updates on my superchips cortex. im running the 93 oct tune, superchips shift schedule, torque management adjusted to 8%.

i was "runnin" with an 10' gmc acadia. we were pushing 85mph from MI. i avg. 18mpg. (mds never kicked on)

so i was happy with those kinda results, going through kentucky on 1-75 i put it in tow/haul. even on the big rollers, it never dropped out of 5th gear. just "powered" through it. the extra hp from the superchips really shined here.

once we got into the mountains in tenn. headed up toward the NC border it performed great also. i kept it in 2nd/3rd just about the whole decent/acsent. so i was naturally reving higher. truck still avg. about 17mpg or so through the mountains. my friends acadia just about puked, probably avg. about 12mpg with 5 adults inside! lol. said he could see the gas gauge dropping.

overall, im very impressed with what the superchips has done to an already awesome vehicle. i knew it wouldnt have been too radically differant, but i could tell the extra hp/tq was there for sure. and basically i think the chip compensated for me not having a 3.92, 4.10 etc. i could only imagine how nice it would have been with the 3.92.....

hope this experience of mine helps somebody else....

Unsure why you "kept it in 2nd/3rd just about the whole decent/acsent"...

I've never driven that route, but it cannot be much different (at least not worse) than driving "the Beeline" out of Phoenix over the Mogollon Rim onto the Colorado Platteau - 1250ft-7500ft elevation change in several 3000ft vertical 5mile twisty climbs. Along this, my experience is usually dropping into 4th only 3-4 times that aren't induced by my brake pedal at a 35MPH curve taken mid-50s.

I'll be towing a 4200lb RV through that pass this summer. It'll be interesting to see how the Hemi Ram (3.55) does in comparison to my 05 Dakota 4.7 (4.10) which frequently dropped down to 2nd prime at max 45MPH and engine temp flirted with the red line when OAT = 110 deg.

well the descent was enough to put it in 2nd/3rd most of the way. doing keeping the revs at about 2200rpm or so. using the engine for some braking.

if not you would be riding your brakes. like a lot of other people did as i could smell some people burnin em up as we drove by. lol

I've made the drive from Maggie Valley into Gatlinburg several times. Your right, anything higher than 3rd and you are taking your life in your hands! I've smelled many a brakes burning up going down the back side (coming and going!).

Seriously? I have driven through Gatlinburg area and didn't see any mountains? Come on over to BC and hit some of the passes here and I will show you taking your life into your hands.
