Default Exhaust Question

First let me say I have searched the forum and the net and I have not for my answer yet.

I had a 2001 ram with the 5.9 with flowmaster single in dual out 40 series and I loved the sound.
Now I have a 2009 hemi sport and I am looking for a system that will sound similar to the old. I have hear that with the flowmaster that you will loose power unless you go with the 50HD. But is the 50 HD much loader than the stock Sport exhaust?
Also the "Drone" that everyone is talking about, is it that the sound is just a loud straight tone or does it sound like a ricer? And when the MDS kicks in does it just cause the sound to get a little quieter or what?
I am just looking for some help and explainations of the words that are being used. I would greatly appreciate some help.

not sure about flowmaster sounds, but i have the aeroturbine 3030 muffler installed and left the resonater on, sounds good outside the truck and have no cab noise or drone.would recommend leavin the resonator, had same setup on my 05 without the resonator and the drone would give you a headache after a while.the mufflex muffer seems to be a popular choice.was goin to get it but already had the at3030.

drone- I to have a at3030 with the resonator and when it kicks into MDS mode the exhaust almost seems to vibrate due to lack of pressure exiting the exhaust, the tone seems to get weaker 4 cyl. compared to 8cyl. horsepwer. I can tell when it shifts into mds and for me i cant stand it, drives me nuts, trying to explain it is just hard. somebody can explain it better im sure just wait your question will be answered

Drone refers to a "drone" type sound when maintaining a set speed, usually on the highway. I don't mind the drone I have. I have a Flowmaster original 40 series. The 50hd is too quiet. I don't like it. My recommendation is to go with a 40 series. Take the tailpipes out to the back of the vehicle. Mine are dumped before the axle. If you don't mind the drone, do it that way. It certainly looks cleaner overall.

Just my .02.

N, yes, I have heard that when the MDS kicks in, ur exhaust note changes a little bit. I don't have a Hemi. I have the lil 4.7l. IMHO, the exhaust note from a 4.7l engine sounds better than that of a Hemi. Idk though for sure.

BTW, I'm jealous of the 09 Hemi Sport model. Wish I had one in a SCSB configuration. Nice truck. The new Hemi RCSB pickups are said to have a quarter mile time in the 13's. Anyone confirm that, to b true?

Thank you all for your responces.
It appears that a lot of people are running the 18" mufflex on here. Can any one tell me from expereince what the 18" sounds like compared to the flowmaster 40?

Never heard of "mufflex" mufflers. Just stick with what you know n like. U really can't go wrong with Flowmaster.
