Check this out. The new 411hp Raptor was tested on pickuptrucks.com tested price was $48k, it did 0-60 in 7.61 and the 1/4mile in 15.86 at 89mph. And that's with the more powerful 6.2 they have. So just because another factory's got hotair claims that they have more power dosent mean it's going to outperform the other.

 

The 6.2 Raptor is suppose to come in extended cab (what the 2010 models are) and the Super Crew. You'll still be able to get a 5.4 in the extended cab version, but all Super Crew Raptors will have the 6.2.

The Raptor is suppose to be a "fast truck," but that's Baja off-roading fast. Put it on the street against a 1500 RAM and it'll get it's doors blown off. Or you could take it off the road and put it up against the Power Wagon in some rock crawling and it'd get schooled there as well.

 

The Raptor is currently only the Extended Cab (or whatever Ford calls it). No regular cab or supercrew at the moment.

It's not a street truck. It'll beat any Dodge across the dessert, but that's what it's built for - not the street or rock crawling.

 

I don't get the deal with Ford and the 6.1 engine. Didn't they also just come out with the new 5.0 in the mustang that has the same power? I'm too lazy to look it up, but it seems I've read that the hp and tq are really close to the same. ???

 

I totally agree that the Dodge is the best truck out there and I am amazed at the 390 hp from 348 cubic inches compared to the 366 my GTO has that shakes all over at idle and needs 94+ octane fuel.
I didn't mean to imply that it is underpowered just that in marketing "most in class" is a great selling tool, Dodge themselves made a big deal out of the hemi being 390 hp in 09 whereas the 08 had enough hp for the majority of the truck owners. My question was since Dodge already has this motor that would be a bolt-in why not make it availible, I don't really need it, my 04 had a 4.7 ( a sweet little engine imo)that was really all I needed to pull my 4500 lb traval trailer but it would not be a great selling tool if that was all that was available when others were +400

 

If they bolt that in the fuel economy goes down the tubes and you will have to pay a gas guzzler tax for sure.
About the GTO shaking and making all that noise, doesn't it sound great though when you you go WOT and it all comes together and what I really wanna know doesn't it make the hair on your arms stand up? I wish the trucks had high lift cams and stuff and shook and sounded like a hot rod.

 

Dont worry about the Hp claims Ford is advertising. That's just a sales tool. What matters is what they put down to the wheel. Im sure the GM 6.2, 5.7 Hemi and 5.7 iForce all put down more HP/TQ to the wheels than that new 6.2 Ford motor. I read a few months back a comparison test of all the full size trucks, and the toyota and dodge 5.7 along with the 6.2 GM all were pretty much dead even in performance. Hell your guys dyno numbers are pretty much identical to our dyno numbers stock for stock and you have 9 more hp at the crank.

Ford needed these numbers to stay in the game, but still come up short where it counts. 411 hp in a 6000+ pound truck isnt that impressive.

 

just get the Superchips programmer and you'll be right back on the top of the heap. At the crank it's about 40+/-hp. At the rear wheels it's 25hp and you can really tell it seat of the pants.

 

They've got the 5.0, the twin turbo v-6 eco boost, and the 6.2 now, and all will be in the trucks. They make power in different ways and have different curves. I suppose you've got the mass market engine that'll get good mpg in the eco boost, the decent all around v-8 in the 5.0, and the HD v-8 in the 6.2. Still seems a little much.

I'm not sure about towing with it, but that eco-boost is no joke....and tuners are already dialing them up a notch.

Hennessy has a supercharged 5.4 Raptor making over 500hp.....and it couldn't hit 13s. Not what it's built for obviously, but I was still surprised until I saw how much the dang thing weighed.

 

lets not all forget about the gearing... The horsepower is only one key to the braggin rights... problem with a truck is you can have bragging rights in one category than others, drag racing, road coarse racing, towing, PULLING, and off road capability (and i'm sure man more)... However, it all depends how the truck is geared. You guys are crazy to compare a dodge ram 1500 to a raptor, as the raptor is meant as a desert runner 'truck', and that's basically the only thing it's designed for. It's not design to go fast like a viper on pavement, it's designed to go a decent speed and for the driver to keep control on desert (rough) terrain. And as far as TOP speed vs. off the line, is all based on gearing, not necessarily horsepower... So pick a truck YOU like, and stand up for it, because that's all that matters in the end...
