Default Not equipped with U-Connect

I purchased a new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 in September 09. At the time that we were talking and working with the Salesman, he told me that as soon as I purchased a new phone with Bluetooth, I would have the U-Connect. Unfortunately when I did finally get a bluetoth phone and tried to setup U-Connect, I got the message that the truck is not equipped with U-connect. I looked at my Window Sticker from the purchase and it said "U-Connect Series/ Serius Satellit radio". I went to the dealer that I purchased the truck from and was told that the description on my Window stick only meant the "U-Connect faceplate"! How is the consumer supposed to know that. As well as the fact that when we were purchasing the truck, the salesman took my cellphone to "look for bluetooth" and told me that "I would be able to use the U-Connect once I purchased a new phone with bluetooth". Even the Sales GM at the dealer told me that this was a deception in regard to U-Connect. The dealership has told me that I can put in an aftermarket device that would have to sit on my dash..when I have the faceplate in my truck!! And they won't pay for it!! I have been told that I should have "discovered at delivery of the vehicle that my truck did not have U-Connect"! I would really like to know how I should have known that! There was NO walk through of the vehicle when we purchased it. (My husband has since purchased a new 2010 Ford 350 Power Stroke, and there was a FULL walk through of the vehicle at the time of the delivery, so he KNEW exactly what he was getting). I am really frustrated with the dealership. And guess what..we never received the new vehicle sales survey from the dealership either!...Wonder why!!??

Does anyone know if there is a way to be able to utilize the nice pretty faceplate that I have in my Ram? I would really like to be able to use it rather than just look at it. Is there anyway to have U-Connect installed after the purchase of the truck since the faceplate is already installed? How do I get it installed and what do I ask for at Dodge...although not the dealership I purchased the truck from...I'll never go back to that one.

Im no expert at this but I did read a post about someone having a problem with their bluetooth having a crapy connection so they replaced his bluetooth tranceiver which was mounted in the dash maybe above the radio. That fixed his problem so all you may need is that part installed and plugged into your radio. Does your truck have a microphone installed. Mine is located in the overhead console, but some are in the rear view mirror. Varies by year n model I guess. If the Stealership is not going to take care of you then your best bet is to get an aftermarket stereo that has bluetooth. They are much cheaper to get. Crutchfield is a good place to look, and they send all of the adaptors necessary for a clean install with great instructions. Your other bet is to look at best buy for something and have them install it professionaly if you or the hubby are not electricaly/mechanically inclined.

You can purchase an after installation u connect from the dealer. I bought one for my 08 mega cab (less than 2 years ago) and it was around $350-400. Installation was around an additonal $150.00 (or 2 hrs labor) as they had to remove part of the dash to place it and connect to the radio system. It came with a seperate mic and a two button control system although because I didn't have a u connect setup on the overhead consule or in my case on the review mirror I'm not sure about tieing it into either of these systems. You may want to do a search in either the 4th or 3rd generation sections of the dodge ram forum by typing in u connect as I recall reading a thread that discussed a reader suggesting a plug in point off of the plastic trim covering the door frame to the dash off the drivers-side if you already had a system with buttons in the vehicle, but no u connect. I hope this helps.
