Default CV Joints

At 12k the manual for my '09 1500 says to inspect the cv joints.
How does one inspect cv joints?

Look at them see if the boots are ripped, about all I can think of unless there is a way to test them for looseness/

CV join ts are connected to a hub on thefront tires.. you can grab the middle of them and shake them to see if they are loose!
