Default New owner from Sunny England

Hi Chaps

Just taken delivery of my 4th Ram, a rare sight here in the UK and not really fit for some of our lanes which is why I love them.

Previously owned a 2006 1500 hemi then an 2007 SRT before switching to a Cummins 2500 in 2008.

I now own a 2010 HD Laramie with bigger wheels and 2" lift.

This truch is awesome but owning one here is frowned upon so I need to find refuge here.

Anyhow....not sure whether I should be posting here or in the Cummins bit??????

Nice looking setup there! I've been to England before and I can imagine driving that on some of the little lanes is a real challenge!

Welcome - from an Englishman in the US. We have his'n'hers 1500 Laramies.

I have no idea why owning a fullsize truck is frowned upon over there. If you can afford the truck, taxes, fuel and insurance, then good on you. Seems like plain old jealousy to me. Noone would bat an eyelid if you had bought a LWB HiTop Mercedes Sprinter van (a much bigger vehicle). Funny how that same van has a Dodge badge over here

Q- why did you buy a 2500? Did you need the diesel? The reason I ask is that the ride in the 4th gen 1500 is excellent due to it being on coil springs. I think the 2500/3500 still have cart springs, even in the 4th gen.

Well I primarily needed a 2500 due to towing and I must admit to quite liking the diesel lump and the tough looking bonnet.

I't a shame about the old cart spring suspension, my friend has the 1500 and the ride is superior.

The frowning upon is due to it's rediculous size and people automatically thing I'm just a poser but the truth is i need the occasional 6 seats and the room in the bed as well as the towing capacity. I don't believe anything else on the market can offer this.

I love those wheels and tires on that truck but go easy on the chrome...you have more than enough in my opinion. But man that truck looks tough I can see whey they frown, they are scared you are gonna run them over squirting around in little whatever they are, I see some ford models there that aren't here. Oh we don't have bonnets on our trucks we call them hoods LOL. Can you check with a small magnet and tell me if you have the aluminum hood/bonnet on that new monster. I would sacrifice my smooth ride for that tough *** look.
Cheerio mate,(is that a correct expression) anyway love that truck.

I too am an Englishman, living here in the great state of Texas, love the 4th Gen Ram (my 4th)
I can see how those people in Gwhizz and the likes get scared when they see that coming in their rearviews .......... :O)
Must be fun getting it parked tho ........I used to have an XJS at home and it was a nightmare finding a spot long and wide enough, I can only imagine what it's like in that truck !

Cheers fellas.

The hood is steel, I too am not keen on all that chrome, it's the way it came unfortunatley. I was looking at getting the bumpers wrapped in matt black and the body strips too. Oh and mirrors....oh and centre grilles.

Dava.....I have an XJS too, number 001 Lister with a 7.0 engine. Awesome car and one for the future me thinks.

Anyone happen to know about my winch thread by chance??

I guess they don't have to qualify a certain gas mileage on the 2500 so they don't need to take off the weight. My wife and daughter can take the hood off my truck it is so light.

Well good luck with that truck. Its so huge I can only imagine someone in an opel have you pull up behind them at night

Vauxhalls in England, old chap. Otherwise identical to Opels, but still, Vauxhalls...

In fairness, they aren't all small cars. There was a (by US standards) smaller Caddy, the Catera, that was the same basic vehicle as one of the Vauxhalls/Opels, and (I think) the Chevy Lumina.

Still, the smaller Vauxhall/Opel Corsas would fit in the bed of a fullsize truck!
