Default New sub box.

I thought I would toss this out there for anyone interested. I picked up a sub box off e-bay. I see the price has gone up about 25 bucks since I did, it may have changed things, not sure though.

For the price, I couldn't see me building a box to fit this odd space. I doubt the extra 25 bucks would change my mind there, but I may have shopped around a little more. The box is good quality. Carpeting is all around the box, with push style connectors. Joints all sealed, nothing I couldn't build myself, but probably not first shot at fitting.

I tossed in a set of Pioneer 10's. Nothing fancy, I am doing this on the cheap. This was my first time adding to a stock head unit, so really wasn't sure what to expect and figured high end may be a waste. Now, I am not so sure. I think high end would work with the stock sytem with a front speaker upgrade to get sound quality up. Hooked them up to a Pioneer GM-7500 amp, good clean power. Again, nothing great, but decent.

Box fits decent, I think they could have followed some contours better, but all in, ok.

Amp fit nicely behind the box under the drivers side rear seat, power wire fuse mounted to the seat rail and hooked up the infeed to the rear door speaker wires at the pillar. Never hooked an amp up using anything other then a dedicated amp output running through an equalizer, so wasn't sure how it would work, but seemed the easiest way.

And looks clean and tidy with the seat down.

Now for sound quality. I wish I had more then just the filter on the amp to seperate the lo notes, it doesn't seem to do an amazing job, but it does the trick. Sound is decent, not as tight as I would like it, but I knew from the air space it would be iffy. But it does pound. I can finally rattle the mirror! LOL I adjusted the gain and now just use the bass on the radio to controll the sub output. I like lots, my wife, not so much. Seems to be a simple system, install was easy enough and not too intrusive into the trucks wiring. Overall, I am a happy camper.

True audio philes need not reply with the facts that it is a low price set up. I know that, and really don't want to go to crazy with it. Because, as I have done before, next thing you know you are running 26 speakers in a regular cab Toyota pickup and have a walk through into the box that is completely filled with sub box to house your 2 18's, 2 12's, 4 10's and 4 8's. And then, you just go through windshields like crazy. I don;t need to go there again, and I had a tight budget.

Nice looking setup. Thanks for the documentation. I may consider a single 12" box on the passenger side from the same eBay seller. I already have a 12" Audiomobile sub and nice Xtant amp from my last car that I could re-use.

How did you run power from the battery? Is it easy to get through the firewall? And where are the rear speaker wires found (I don't have my Ram yet, so forgive me if this is a stupid question).

There is a plastic cover onthe firewall that would be used for the clutch.... It has a nice hole in the firewall behind it and NOTHING on the other side. Comes out just behind the battery and no metal edges. It is perfect. The tech at the dealership showed it to me.

The speaker wires are behind the pillar trim. Pop it off and tap in right there before the plug out to the doors.
