Yes, non detergent oil is hard to find nowadays and will usually be a SAE 30 or so. It is used in air compressors and the hydraulic pump of old tractors.

First factory oil changed out at 500 miles, went synthetic blend till 5000 miles, and been using valvoline full synthetic with a Napa branded Wix (7899) filter ever since. Change it every 5000 miles religiously with tire rotations myself.

DUDE! Drop the Royal purple ASAP! That stuff is all BS. So many other real synthetics out there. I run Motul in my K7 GSXR 1000 and I beat the **** out of that bike.

Changed mine at 2800, no light on, but knowing it will either come on and need changed when I'm not around, or it would not come on and be in the engine for well over a year. Put in the reg stuff, but oil change #2 will be Valvoline Syn. Seems like it takes over 7 qts to get to right at the full mark on the dipstick. Glad to see the same filter wrench I used on my Dakota works on the Ram!

Break-in today is not what break-in was 20 years ago. Your engine is basically "broken in" at about 500 miles and it would be fine to change your oil any time thereafter...
