Default Rear view mirror buttons: What do they do?

So I have this new 2010 RAM and the rear view mirror has a power button on it and a light on either side. Also has a sheathed wiring harness coming into the back of it. Manual doesn not mention it at all! What the heck is it and what does it do?

Auto dimming mirror. The mirror compares the amount of light it see coming in through windshield to the amount coming from behind or in the cab. If light is equal on both sides, then it won't tint. However, if it's dark in front (night or sunshade) and it sees more light coming in the back it'll tint to cut down on the glare. Basically an electronic replacement for that switch that's on the bottom of the mirror on every other car.

Oh, and as for the two things next to the power button, one is a sensor for the light (left as you're looking at the mirror) and the other is the mic for UConnect.

Thanks! Think that would be in the manual

I have been all through the manual. This feature is most definitely not listed in mine. Thanks for the answers though!

Actually, there is a whole section on these in the manual. For the mirrors, it is the very first section in "Understanding the features of your vehicle" Right after all the safety stuff. Starts around page 93 for 2011-2012. Around page 126 for 2013-2015.

And yes, it answers the question about the driver's door mirror dimming. (Ctrl+F is your best friend when searching the manuals)
