I basically want to create a HEMi that can compete with a cummins (I didnt say beat all cummins, just compete with some of them, lol). I anticipate needing improved torque converter/tranny, driveshaft, brakes, etc.

Anyone on here have, or know of anyone with a quick 3/4 ton gas truck?
To be honest with you, you bought the wrong truck. These new"er" trucks are so computer controlled that it's nearly impossible to get the kind of performance you're looking for. The tuners are okay but they truly don't make a huge difference. You'll see where people have dropped a few tenths off their 1/4 mile time but that's not really all that impressive, at least to me.

I've owned a modified Cummins and the Hemi cannot compete without major money being put into it. There's still no blower available to purchase yet so that eliminates that route. You'll be better off investing your money in a second vehicle that you can modify and make it fast.

I think a different transmission would be helpful in this situation, you get no real guts till you are moving already at a decent speed 30mph maybe 20

IMO you will spend far too much cash to make a hemi comparable to a cummins. I mean with a cummins you buy exhaust, a down pipe , intake and a progrmmer and voila! You get up to a 150++ HP increase and an ungodly amout of torque. I wasnt being a smart *** when I said hurry and go trade it and get a diesel.

Aside from the MDS, they have different horsepower/torque ratings and the curves are different. Oddly enough the 1500 has slightly more HP and Torque than the 2500.

Looks like these guys dont like a good jump on a start. This truck like everything else these days has torque management. What they do is keep you from cracking the throttle fast by letting the computer handle the input. One of the reasons that I hate throttle by wire. This put the computer in charge. They did the same thing with the cadillac CTS-V. I had one with a blower on it. Trans held up fine but I blew 4 diffs as they were junk.. GM put a 6 cyl aluminum diff into a 400 hp car and tried to let the computer dum it down. I got into a pissing contest with John Heinracy about it. He is nothing but a BS artist and a liar! Anyway my 07 Tundra would jump out of the hole nicely. The diff in this truck can take the action, no problem. Basically they designed in a soft application of power to almost guarantee no failures. What we need is a tuner to hack the chrysler software. The truck is too new. It will probably take another year for someone to take the time to do it. I went thru 15 tunes with the caddy untill it was just perfect... short of the junk diff.
Be patient, it will happen. Pay no attention to the nay sayers.

42...what size rear end comes with these 2500's, is it a 9.75 or a 10.5? And about your truck being slow off the line...I see on the Dodge build site that the 2500 comes with three gear ratio options, which gears do you have? With all that weight to push you'll definately need 4.10's to move it! IMO...I think the Dodge builders who put anything other than 4.10's or lower in these trucks need their heads examined! They should have had 4.10, 4.30, and 4.56 options and nothing higher, that's my opinion of a sturdy heavy duty truck anyway. I'm sure others may feel different about that but it's HD for a reason. Thus allowing for mega tires modding as well...but good luck with your 2500 truck, I think that they look pretty nice!

Default added Superchips cortex

i just added the SC cortex this week. I had just filled up with 87 octane, so thats the tune I am running now. It has helped quite a bit, running 0-60 in 7.6sec according to the tuner. I am pleased with it and excited to try the 93 tune.

I have 4.10s in the rear, the 4.56s are only available with the power wagon otherwise I would have had those instead.

That's great...glad you're happy now! I brought my truck (15k mls) in today for the very first time for minor RRT stuff because my ac/defroster wasn't blowing at times. But stupid me never bothered checking for bags sucked up in the return air duct (like I remember reading here on the forum) on the passenger side and sure enough they found a plastic Velero shop bag stuck up in there, lol! They didn't charge me anything and didn't have time to reflash my system so I have to go back next week but it works good again!. Anyway, while I was there I walked the lot and checked out those 2500 trucks... man are they well built...and sturdy looking! And the rearends are humungus...I guess they are 10.5 rearends, it's a very tuff looking truck!
