Default 1400 mile road trip in a 2009 CC

One of our members, River_Booty took his fleet of Dodge vehicles for a little road trip this weekend.

I have to say, I was most impressed with the fact that the truck handles and pulls like the trailer wasn't even behind it. If it had not been for the car sitting on a trailer right behind the truck and the fact that the nose of the truck was up in the air, we could have easily forgotten about the load behind the truck.

Check out the pics and note that the truck is getting air bags pretty soon.

I must say, after spending this much time in the truck, I am fully sold in buying one instead of a 3rd gen.

The truck averaged 13.8MPG loaded down with hand calculation and averaged 18.9 on the way home.

2009 CCSB Ram, 5.7, 3.55 gears, Sport.

I am very proud of how well my truck did pulling that trailer and car. We didnt weigh in to get an exact weight, but the trailer weighs about +/-2300 Lbs. and the Chally weighs in at about +/-5300 Lbs. It is also worth mentioning that there were some other factors in play here. I am running a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers (325\60R20) and an 87 Octane Performance Tune which came with my Diablo Sport Tuner. The laden portion of the trip yeilded about +/-12MPG with payload, four passengers (but two of them were children), luggage, and a spare tire (spare tire and wheel identical to what is mounted).

Correction:
The average laden fuel use running up and down the hills on I-44 of eastern Missouri was about 12 MPG and the overall was about 13 MPG for the laden leg of the trip.

Nice. These trucks do pull like a mule. If I towed a lot, then the airbags would be a great add-on.

Any after pictures of that Challenger and/or Jeep? Looks like they cut the hood on the Challenger to get all of that under it.

Welcome to the plight of the Challenger. Note that its cost and weight is why the sales are not doing so well.

The modded chally that you see is a SEMA show car.

If you are on Facebook, search RDP Motorsport and you'll see a lot of the cars that Steve has built. Great man by the way. Oh, you'll also see the Jeep as it progresses along its way.

Let's not forget that they can also see the progression of the work on my Chally too. Steve is building me a 426 Hemi Stroker, a race tranny, re-working the rear-end, and oh yes, twin turbos. Then he is going to top it off with some shiney under the hood.

By the way... the 5300 Lb.s quoted on the weight of the car is what I got from the sticker in the door jam. I havent read a lot of those stickers and it's very possible I misunderstood what I was looking at. I did check a couple of other sources that say the curb weight is 4100 Lb.s. That's all I know.

Allpar claims that the car weighs 4,170 car alone. That's the SRT-8 model with a weight distribution of 55.6/44.4

Per "no such thing as stupid question", let me try ...

You list the "spare". Did it ride in the truck bed or does it fit between the frame rails in place of the limited-use stock spare ??

I'm positive that the spare would have never fit in the factory location. For this trip, it rode in the bed up front with our luggage at the end.
