I just did 350 miles with around 6000lbs (boat) and got 10.5mpg, we ahve a lot of big mountains around and it handled it just fine. I have 3.55 gears and 5th gear rpm at 65mph is in a good spot in tow haul. on flat land I could turn off the tow haul and it was OK but going up and down the mountains I had to keep it in tow/haul.

I'm pretty happy with the way this tows, rear springs could be a little stouter though..

My old 2006 Ram did not squat nearly as much as my new one when towing this amount. I thought I was riding the bumpstops last year with the new coil springs set-up vs. my old truck.
I agree the squat is nasty I tow a 8 1/2 by 20 enclosed loaded and the rear squated so bad. I then threw some Timbren's on the back and the truck rides awesome now and I dont have to mess around with any air.

I am going to be pulling my 26ft travel trailer about 700 miles in a week. I have the 5.7 , 20" Tires and 3.55 gears. From what I have seen around town/highway I am looking at 10-11MPG.. I was also playing around with the tow button but did not like how it kept th RPMS up so high. I was wondering it it was better to use tow only for starting from a dead stop then using the +/- on my shifter to keep it in 5th or 4th keeping it out of OD or with only 4-5000 lbs is tow needed? Now its gunna bug me that I have to watch the tranny temp, I have the tow package but so does everyone right?

As far as trailer sway / squat I use the Equlaizer hitch, WORLD of a differance, I brought the trailer home on just a ball and drop hitch, holy call I had to chagne my undies, it was a very windy day and I was getting sea sick in the truck..

Tranny temps: On a 90deg. day expect it to creep up to about 205deg. My experience with 17" and 3.55, 4200lb RV with no wind is: might as well leave it in tow/haul. You won't be seeing 5th(od) that much anyway. Granted, mpg suffers but what to do?

Well, now I'm totally confused. I got back a week ago from towing my jet ski up to South Carolina fron the gulf coast. I brought it for my son to use since I'm working 7 days a week for the rest of the summer plus all the other crap (oil spill) thats going on down here. I used tow/haul mode the entire trip up and I noticed on the dash indicator it was showing "5" all the time, which meant to me I was in 5th gear. So now we have 6 gears? If one were to use the manual shift, would a "6" show up or is it topped out at "5" in manual shift? On the instrurment panel, that is.

I have a 2009 CC, Hemi, Big horn, I'm assuming 3.55 rear end and was towing / carrying about 2000lbs. I got 16.3 mph on the trip up and 19.4 on the trip back, 600+ miles each way. I made the trip up at night and back during the day so back I used the A/C so my mpg might have been better.

You can go manual on tow and off tow also..
Tow mode you NEVER get 6th gear manual or auto
Off tow you only get 6th on auto, manual you get 1-5

I don't get the jail part, but ok. Yea, I read that in the post. Good info. I wonder why Dodge doesn't adertise the fact of 6 speed tranny, unless because of the tow/manual part. To tell you the truth, I don't rally care how many gears I have, I just LOVE my truck.

I have a mtn cabin at 5200 ft. Going up there from the valley in which I live gets a little steep and I noticed that trans temp climbs to 205 degrees F, and that is in tow/haul mode and manually shifted down into 3rd gear running around 2300 rpm. Someone in an earlier post to this thread said that trans fluid breaks down around 200 degrees F. Is this really true?? If so, what am I supposed to do? Shift down into 2nd maybe to get the rpms even higher? Tx.
