Towed 700 miles today, my thoughts and opinions!
I have a mtn cabin at 5200 ft. Going up there from the valley in which I live gets a little steep and I noticed that trans temp climbs to 205 degrees F, and that is in tow/haul mode and manually shifted down into 3rd gear running around 2300 rpm. Someone in an earlier post to this thread said that trans fluid breaks down around 200 degrees F. Is this really true?? If so, what am I supposed to do? Shift down into 2nd maybe to get the rpms even higher? Tx.
Amen dude, this "old" tranny (10 yrs) was my only hesitation in buying the '10, coming from an '05. Wow, they did a great job with the shifting logic, it is a whole new beast.
The ideal setup would be a true 6 spd, ala ford, something like:
1- 3.67, 2- 2.50, 3- 1.45, 4- 1.00, 5, 6 o/d
My suspicions is that for the new engine in 2012, they will have a 7spd auto, something like Mercedes has, with 5 gears to 1:1 and 2 O/Ds.

Here is the chart I referenced. Hope this helps.
You'd want to make sure that chart applies to ATF+4 before giving it credence for our RAMs. ATF+4 is a synthetic trans fluid that is supposed to have high temp capabilities. I don't know the specifics, but it is likely better rated than non-synthetic.
