I didn't think SmartBeam was a feature on RAM trucks? I had it on our 2005 Grand Cherokee and wasn't a big fan of it. What does the manual say about it?

smart beam is suppost to turn on your high beam (brights) automatically at night when the truck doesn't detect lights in front of it for added security. A waste of a 100 dollar option in my opinion.

Owners manual says its a customer programable feature, if available. Its enabled thru the EVIC setup according to the manual. It automaticaly enables the high beam to come on with your low beam when the sensor (in the mirrow) does not detect light in front of your vehicle. Selling dealer told I had this featue but not according to the EVIC menue.

That's not what SmartBeam was on the Jeep. It was a system that detected the presence of vehicles in front of you and turned on the high beams when none were detected. The auto headlight portion where the lights turn on and off based on outside ambient light levels is different. Maybe the owners manual is actually talking about the auto headlight settings and not 'SmartBeam'?

We're talking about the same thing. You must enalbe the feature (one time -on) thru the EVIC and then put your headlight switch in auto on mode for system to function.

My 2010 Jeep has it, it also has a black box that mounts next to the mirror with a lens/sensor to sense the oncoming traffic.

If you dont have that sensor my guess would be you dont have it, trust me you arent missing much if you dont, a useless feature around here.

I agree, it's really not needed and I probaly wouldn't enable the system anyway. Some things work better if left alone.

Not sure what you're even referring to here. The printed manual ends at page 91 or so and, as far as I can see, there is no page numbering in the DVD manual. I couldn't find any reference to 'SmartBeam' when searching the on-line manual.

I also looked through the EVIC setup section. There is nothing in my fully loaded Sport model referencing SmartBeam. Also, the 2010 RAM printed sales brochure does not list any feature similar to this about headlights.

As far as I can tell, the 2010 RAM 1500s have the capability to have auto on/off headlights and the option for them to turn on when the wipers are on. That's it. No SmartBeam functionality.

Pg 117 in the 2010 manual:

"SmartBeam™—If Equipped..

TheSmartBeam™system provides increased forward
lighting at night by automating highbeam control
through the use of a digital camera mounted on the
inside rearview mirror. This camera detects vehicle specific light and automatically switches from high beams to
low beams until the approaching vehicle is out of view."

Just look at the mirror, if it has a black box with a lens in front of it attached to it then you have it, if not you dont.
