Default Borla vs. MagnaFlow

Ok, I am going to be getting a new muffler welded on in a week or two to my 2009 Ram 1500 5.7L, 3:92 rear end. I will also be removing all resonators from the exhaust as well. It will be a single in to dual out, with the pipes dumping over the rear axle by the wheel (no tips). My only problem is which muffler to get. I am currently looking at the Borla Turbo XL (400241) and the MagnaFlow 18" (12288). Which of theses is better, and/or which would you suggest, and why? I want a nice deep rumble, and I don't mind it loud, just not so freaking loud though that everyone is like, look at that jack ***. I also have to keep in mind which will sound better (if at all) when the fuel saver kicks in. Thanks for your help.

both will sound like sh*t when its in 4 cylinder mode. I have the magnaflow 18" on my truck and love it. I will also be getting my resonators cut out here in the next two weeks or so to make it sound a little better. It is loud when you want it to be and quiet while i'm going down the road. But I'm sure someone on here with the borla will say the same about their muffler, its all about personal preference.

sound pretty crappy with the resonators off/removed. I have the Magnaflow 24" that comes with the bigger tails and its a great system. 4-cyl mode isn't too bad but you'll hear it. Nice and quiet on the hwy and loud enough to get you noticed with your foot in it. Borla is likely the same since it too is a pass-thru. Just stay away from chambered mufflers and you'll be happy.

I have had both but on my F150 and I think the Borla has a smoother, deeper rumble. In fact, I had the borla first and thought the magnaflow had a leak at one of the clamps when I first heard it compared to the borla sound. Definitely different sounding. They are both free flow so performance would be the same and no back pressure. I did the mufflex retro ( 14" magnaflow ) on the Ram just so I could easily swap mufflers if I wanted to because it felt like the Ford lost low end torq with both. At least it seemed that way since it no longer would spin the rear tires after I swapped the mufflers from the stock one. I would have done Bora again on the Ram if I found a retro kit like the Mufflex at the time but they both sound good.

Just curious, What size in/out exhaust did you originally have on the Ford and what was the new size exhaust?

You should also think about Solo Performance, I used the Mach 44 and it sounds great!

Go with the Borla Pro Xs. Get it from summit racing. Mine has a deep growl when I get on it and when i start my truck up. There is no drone and it is not affected by MDS.

I agree completely. Sounds great, no drone, can't even tell when the MDS kicks in. Cab is quiet at cruising speeds. I added the Y Pipe too, no problems.

Thanks for all your input. I'm gonna go with the Borla TurboXL, I was leaning that way anyway.
